So I just started up Resident Evil 7 and played it for about an hour. It's such a breath of fresh air compared to previous RE games. It also has the feeling of the first Resident Evil with the giant house and all the puzzles. I'm really liking first-person mode as well. It feels really satisfying getting constant headshots as it's much easier to aim than in third-person. I'm definitely looking forward to playing more soon.
On a side note, it's still hard for me to believe that I've played all the way up to RE7 now. I haven't played Code Veronica yet, but I'm thinking I'll hold off on playing it until the potential remake. I just feel like I'm done with tank controls lol. I just want to play all the modern RE games now, i.e. the remakes of 2, 3 and 4 as well as 7 and 8.

This is my Resident Evil collection. I have a variation of each RE game released (without the gameboy game). Here are my thoughts on each game:
1. Resident Evil (original) - this started it all. I played this but never finished it before I got the DS version. It is a good game with some neat designs and the DS version is my favorite of the original release.
2. Resident Evil 2 (Original) - I opted in for the N64 version as it is all on the cartridge and I love cartridges. This is PHENOMENAL GAME! Way better than RE1 original. The RPD is so creepy and atmospheric! My favorite section of the whole game!
3. Resident Evil 3 Nemesis - this is the only game I have not finished or got far into. It is my next game to finish!
4. Resident Evil 4 Original - at first, I did not like the game but that was because of the controls. After some struggle it clicked with me! Also, it is really cool that the whole game is on the Nintendo Switch cartridge
5. Resident Evil Revelations - I did not like this game. Maybe I have to replay it, but the setting was really uninteresting to me
6. Resident Evil 5 - One more game that I did not like. The atmosphere was gone and it was boring!
7. Resident Evil 6 - Absolute disaster The only thing I liked was the first half of Leon's chapter. Everything else was absolute crap
8. Resident Evil 0 - I thought I was not going to like it because of the dual character gameplay but it was an ok experience. Nothing remarkable
9. Resident Evil HD Remaster - That is perfection Absolutely amazing game and it deserves ALL the praise
10. Resident Evil Revelations 2 - This was SO much better than Revelations 1. The atmosphere and the 2 timelines were good! I will definitely replay that
11. Resident Evil VII - I played this blindly and I was expecting something even worse than RE6, but I was blown away by the horror atmosphere! This was a damn good experience!
12. Resident Evil 2 Remake - Another RE game that gets the score "perfection" from me It is so atmospheric and terrifying ... I played thought it at least 6 times and some moments do not get stale
13. Resident Evil 3 Remake - Seeing the comparison videos of Resident Evil 3 Nemesis and this ... it hurts. This is the worst remake and one of the RE games that is in the bottom of my list. The cut content is too much.
14. Resident Evil Village - Some people do not like Ethan but with this game he is one my favorite RE protagonists! Also, the game is so trippy and weird and I LOVE it. I really want to experience this in PSVR2 but I am still on the fence ... it is more expensive than new PS5 in my country Damn!!!
15. Resident Evil 4 Remake - The only bad thig I can say about this is that ... they did not include the DLC on the disc for the Gold Edition Amazing remake and a joy to play! I also want to experience this in VR

Competed my first playthrough of RE3 Remake (PS5) this evening. Don't think I ever played the original so it was good to have seen the missing piece so to speak. Seemed much more of a cinematic blockbuster type affair than the survival horror I was expecting. Though the last section in the base was kind of horror I suppose.
The game moves along at a frantic pace - game time came in just under 6 hours and total time with cut scenes just under 7 - I think I've been disappointed if I'd paid any decent price for a game that short.
Managed to only scrape a C rank on standard difficulty for my efforts, down to number of saves, deaths and overall time. think I'll next play it on easy mode with a collectable guide to pick up all notes, destroy the statues and any other missable stuff I missed first time through.
Main takeaway from my time with it is that Jill Valentine is proper boss b***h. Love her.

If the rumours are true, then I hope the RE0 remake will have item boxes. It wouldn't detract from the experience at all, it would only enhance it. I might actually consider playing through it again if they made that change.
As for a Code Veronica remake, at first I wanted to play the original game but now I'd rather play a third-person remake in all honestly.
On a side note, it's been a while since I played a Resident Evil game. As mentioned above and because my gaming time is limited, I think I'll hold off on Code Veronica for now. I'd rather play either Resident Evil 2 Remake or Resident Evil 7 as these are the next games on my list.

So to me some of the Resident Evil games seem to be one of more underappreciated games around. While i understand that some have played the games I wounder a little bit how many play them to completion and take time to explore them in a good way. I mean because its a little bit interesting to me how much that there is so much to notice in them.
The environments are quite detailed which is just one impressive thing about them imo.
Its quite cool because after a break I just got into one of the remakes again. As far with what comes next in the franchise I personally think it would be quite cool to beside anything other to see a remake of 5.

Beside the nice and detailed environments (which I dont think many take time to appreciate) I think about the inventory system as one of the coolest things in the games. It must have taken Capcom quite a bit of effort to implement the system in the game. The inventory system and the puzzles in the game also makes me also think about Resident Evil as a game which implements quite a bit of math and that the developers must be quite math oriented. As a player you often not only have to keep track of just your inventory but also about how much ammo you have left. Because you usually don't have too much of it.

@BlAcK_SwOrDsMaN So you’re coming along with RE2, and working your way through the police station with Leon. It’s a great game and really can be scary at times.
What do you think so far?
And I know you’re still probably early on, but do you think you might want to do a Claire playthrough also? A lot of it is the same but there are definitely differences so it’s possibly worthwhile, depending how much you enjoy this first one.
And I’ll be curious if this entices you to play RE3 or RE4 right away.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@BlAcK_SwOrDsMaN Yes, definite cinematic along with the updated graphics and movement/controls. There’s a charm to the original and the tank controls, but I prefer the remake.
When you do get to RE3 Remake you’ll find that it plays very similar to RE2 Remake. New characters, new setting, and slightly new wrinkles to the gameplay, but overall it was quite parallel.
After playing the remakes for 1-3, I played the original RE4 (well the PS4 port, actually) and just didn’t like it. The series shifts from survival focused with small combat encounters, to a combat focused with smaller survival focus. There’s hoards of zombie enemies and it becomes a third person shooter much of the time, which was frustrating with the old control schemes. I’ve picked up the RE4 Remake in the last sale and I’m going to see if I like the game in a remade format where it’s easier to play and has updated controls. I’m not sure when I’ll play it but maybe around Halloween time.
I also want to try the Alan Wake series and I have the first game, so maybe I’ll try that first, depending on my mood.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Yousef- My main gripe wasn’t even the lack of mobility when aiming and shooting, although that was quite annoying in its own right, but it was the lack of quick change of weapons. Since the best tactic was to either shoot an enemy in the knee or head to cripple or stun them, then either do an awkward kick animation or pull out the knife to slash them until they were down permanently, it was a lot of switching weapons and moves and the controls were weird because of going into the menu every time to equip a different one. I don’t know who thought that system made sense, but it wasn’t someone who plays a lot of action games 😅 Especially in a game where ammo is scare, you need to switch back and forth a lot, use a high powered round to stagger and then switch to the pea shooter to finish them off, or switching back and forth between weapons when one of the guys’ grows one of those hydra snake creatures out of their heads. 😅
Anyway, so the Remake apparently fixed all that and also the ability to run and shoot seamlessly without the tank controlling issues. Also the presence of difficulty options will be welcome because there were many times I felt like I was just barely surviving and if I could have only dialed down the difficulty one notch then I probably could have kept going. But as it was, I eventually gave up because I wasn’t having fun.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Yousef- Urgh… you’re killin’ me. 😜
Welp, I’ll just have to hope that I can adjust. The good news is that I paid a fairly low price for it. I think it was $20-$25.
So, the didn’t just make a radial wheel or a quick select with the D-pad or something to switch weapons? Strange.

@Th3solution I played the demo for Resident Evil 4 Remake and didn't really like it. I never enjoyed the original either, but did play it a few years after if it first came out.

@Yousef- Despite my playing OG RE2 back on the PS1 and even some of RE1 back in the day, I have really only recently become invested into the series. It started with playing REmake 1 as a part of Game Club a couple years ago and I was hooked. But just like the Souls series and others, I can’t binge too many in a row and I play about 1 entry a year, or so. I did however play the RE5 demo back on the PS3 and thought it was okay, but that was back when there was just an avalanche of zombie games over a few years, every game had zombies or a zombie mode (remember around that time - RDR’s Undead Nightmare, CoD World at War Zombie mode, on top of The Walking Dead, Plants vs Zombies, Dead Island, Dead Rising, Dead Space…?) and so I just didn’t really feel like actually playing it. And when RE6 dropped I was still not interested and I felt like I needed the context of the earlier games and at the time there wasn’t an easy way to play all of them like there is now.
So I’m actually not opposed to trying RE5 and RE6 now, as well as Code Veronica and RE0, but I need to get past RE4 first. It’s the most beloved of the games, and yet it’s become my barrier to continue with the series. I had planned to probably skip 5&6 and go to 7 though, but I’ll have to see how I feel.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@JohnnyShoulder I’m optimistic. I also think part of my issue with RE4 was that I wasn’t mentally prepared for the shift in gameplay focus. I came out of RE2 and RE3 feeling high on the series characters, gameplay, story and setting, and RE4 just turns all that upside down. After each hoard encounter I thought “wow, that was tough but I’m glad that’s over, now I will get to do some exploring and puzzle solving for a couple hours” but it is always just immediately followed by another huge enemy onslaught. At least that’s how I felt. So when I finally realized “Oh, this is the game — It’s not a tactically paced survival horror, it’s a third person action zombie shooter”, then I tapped out. Going in this time I know what to expect.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Th3Solution Have you come to the Resident Evil 4 remake yet? I have acutually not come to this game yet.

@oliverp No, I just haven’t had time and so I think I’m going to save RE4 to play around Halloween later this year. We’ll see.
@WaveBoy Thanks for that breakdown. Unfortunately I don’t have VR, but I’ve heard consistent great things about the RE games in VR.
It’s good to know RE4 still registers high on your list even in flatscreen. Agree with your assessment of RE2 and RE3 Remakes. I thought RE3 was quite good. Just not on the level of RE2.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@The3Soloution Yeah as Iam busy with a few ohter games atm I think I have to wait with the game as well for a little bit as well. That said I at least have it installed on my system now which I guess is a good thing.

Hm I like also dont feel done with Re2 and Re3 yet.. Even though I have beaten them a few times by now.

@Malaise I never played the original RE3, so that probably helped with my enjoyment of the Remake.
