UNIVERSITY PARK — Whether recovering from an injury or addressing everyday aches, Hinge Health gives eligible University employees and their adult dependents enrolled in a Penn State medical plan constant access to resources and expert care at no out-of-pocket cost. But participants don’t need to wait until they experience an injury or pain to start using the virtual physical therapy program.

Hinge Health offers a no-charge prevention program focused on proactive wellness for those who are not experiencing musculoskeletal pain. The self-paced experience includes personalized exercises and educational content on sleep, stress management, nutrition, and movement to help members build healthy habits and support overall physical health. Hinge also offers positive reinforcement, help with setting attainable goals and incentives for reaching those goals.

To get started, visit hingehealth.com to check eligibility and enroll in the program. Once accepted, Hinge will ask a series of questions to customize your experience. To sign up for the prevention program, answer the following questions in the clinical questionnaire:

  • Choose the body part you want to focus on

  • Indicate that your pain started more than 3 months ago

  • Select “No pain” when asked how bad your pain was over the past 24 hours

  • Select “No pain” when asked how bad your pain was over the past 3 months

Once enrolled, download the free app to get started creating a personalized exercise program and to access all the wellness resources. The personalized exercise sessions, called “playlists,” are about 10-15 minutes long and can be tailored to provide support for specific challenges such as prolonged sitting or standing at work, lifting heavy objects or increasing flexibility. The exercises are designed to fit into busy schedules and able to be done when or wherever works best.

Physical therapy program

From chronic pain to recovery from injury or surgery, Hinge Health also offers personalized physical therapy programs for those who are experiencing musculoskeletal challenges. Hinge helps members skip copays and avoid drives to and from physical therapy appointments through its comprehensive care digital platform.

Hinge Health will tailor a customized physical therapy program for each member based on their answers to the clinical questionnaire, after registering at hingehealth.com. Each member may then meet with a physical therapist to design a guided physical therapy program. The personalized program combines gentle exercises to target and relieve pain with 1-on-1 support from a dedicated physical therapist and a health coach. This is combined with innovative technology for real-time feedback.

Monthly webinars

Hinge Health also offers monthly webinars at no cost for eligible employees and their families. Upcoming webinars for August are:
