Penn State faculty are invited to apply for the Fall 2026 Faculty Writing Program, which supports scholarly productivity by providing structured, accountability-focused writing groups for faculty across the University.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State faculty are invited to apply for the Fall 2026 Faculty Writing Program, sponsored by the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research and the Office of Faculty Affairs, and administered through the Center for Faculty Development and Advancement (CFDA).
Applications for fall writing groups will be accepted through Aug. 28 or until all spaces are filled.
Now in its third year, the Faculty Writing Program supports scholarly productivity by providing structured, accountability-focused writing groups for faculty across Penn State. Designed to help participants secure dedicated writing time, develop productive writing habits, and build a community of writers, the program brings together faculty members from across campuses and disciplines in a supportive environment.
Participants meet weekly for three-hour sessions. Each session begins with a brief discussion led by a faculty co-facilitator on professional development topics such as goal setting, writing strategies, and other aspects of scholarly writing. The remainder of the session is devoted to independent research and writing, with participants setting goals at the beginning of the session and reporting their progress at the end to foster accountability.
Unlike peer review groups, the Faculty Writing Program focuses on supporting the writing process through dedicated writing time, community building and accountability practices that help faculty sustain long-term scholarly productivity.
The program is open to full-time tenure-line and non-tenure-line faculty. Writing groups will be offered virtually via Zoom for both Commonwealth Campus and University Park faculty. Additionally, University Park will offer one section of an in-person writing group.
The Faculty Writing Program is a designated Provost Endorsement Program, and participation can result in earning a Provost Endorsement in Research. Register interest here for the Fall 2026 Faculty Program or visit the Center for Faculty Development and Advancement for more information.
