vivo India has reintroduced its vivo S-series smartphone lineup with the launch of the vivo S2, marking the return of the series to India after nearly 7 years, being the successor to the vivo S1. Positioned in the upper mid-range segment, the vivo S2 is designed around premium-looking aesthetics, advanced imaging, long battery life, and a refined software experience. The smartphone combines a slim curved design with a large 7,050 mAh BlueVolt battery, the MediaTek Dimensity 7360-Turbo, and a 6.83-inch 1.5K 120 Hz 3D Curved AMOLED display. It also features a 50 MP Sony IMX852 OIS main camera, a 32 MP front camera capable of 4K video recording, Aura Light Portrait, IP68 + IP69 dust and water resistance, and five MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability certifications, positioning it as a smartphone that aims to balance style, performance, durability, and battery endurance.
The vivo S2 introduces OriginOS 6 based on Android 16 with Google’s Gemini integration and a range of AI-powered productivity and creativity features, including AI Creation, AI Transcript Assist, AI Captions, Circle to Search, Smart Call Assistant, and vivo Office Kit. Hardware highlights include symmetrical dual stereo speakers, a 3,800 mm² vapor chamber cooling system, AI SuperLink for improved network stability, and vivo’s BlueVolt battery technology, which promises up to six years of battery health while maintaining a slim 7.99 mm profile. vivo has also committed to 3 Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates, adding long-term software support to the overall package.
Starting at ₹35,999 (with offers), the vivo S2 aims to deliver a flagship-inspired smartphone experience by combining premium design, dependable cameras, long-lasting battery life, AI-powered software features, and solid day-to-day performance in its segment. We spent some time using the smartphone to evaluate its design, display quality, software experience, AI features, performance, gaming capabilities, camera performance, battery life, and overall user experience – and here’s our vivo S2 review.

Inside the box, vivo includes the essentials:
Starting off with the design, the vivo S2 stands out with its curved display and premium-looking, sleek matte-finish back. Rather than chasing flashy styling, vivo has focused on elegance, slimness, and everyday comfort. The smartphone combines a 3D Curved AMOLED display, solid side frames, and a refined matte finish that gives it a flagship-inspired appearance. Despite housing a massive 7,050 mAh BlueVolt battery, the device remains impressively slim at 7.99 mm (8.10 mm for the Silk White variant) while weighing just 197 grams (199 grams for Silk White), making it noticeably lighter than many smartphones carrying batteries of similar capacity.
The first thing you’ll notice after picking up the vivo S2 is how naturally the curved display flows into the sides of the frame. Unlike flat-frame devices that sometimes feel boxy, the curved edges help the phone sit comfortably in the palm during prolonged usage. To make it durable, the rear side uses a plastic composite sheet; you don’t get to see the premium glass back since it carries the MIL-STD-810H military-grade design for durability and drop protection.
This time, vivo has picked up a different camera design on the S2, similar to the horizontal camera module we saw on the vivo X300 FE; the company calls its new camera layout the Skyline Camera Module, and it gives the rear panel a distinctive identity and stands out from the usual vertical camera modules. The slightly raised camera island blends into the rear panel, while the integrated Aura Light complements the premium styling. Besides improving portrait photography, the Aura Light also gives the camera module a cleaner and more sophisticated appearance compared to conventional LED flash designs.
You get to choose from Regal Bronze, Silk White, and Sapphire Blue color options; we got the Regal Bronze, as you can see. Users preferring warmer tones can opt for Regal Bronze, inspired by the warm luster of gold coins and the royal artifacts of an ancient. While the Silk White variant offers a mesmerizing appearance with flowing moonlight which is woven into a silk-like texture, creating a calm, understated glow that feels delicate and refined in hand. The Sapphire Blue unit is inspired by the deepest shade of Kashmir sapphires; it features a silky velvet-like texture that subtly reflects light while resisting fingerprints quite well.
For durability, the vivo S2 carries both IP68 and IP69 certifications, offering protection against dust ingress, water immersion, and high-pressure water jets. vivo has also equipped the device with Wet-Hand Touch, Greasy-Hand Touch, and Rain Protection, allowing the display to remain responsive even when exposed to water droplets or slightly wet fingers.
Beyond water resistance, vivo has also focused heavily on structural durability. The S2 has passed five MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability tests, including shock and drop testing. According to vivo, the device has been tested against accidental drops from up to one meter onto multiple surface types including granite, ceramic tile, wood, steel, laminate flooring, grass, and rubber tracks.
Turning to the front, the vivo S2 features a 6.83-inch (17.35 cm) 3D Curved AMOLED display, and it’s easily one of the highlights of the smartphone. The panel offers a sharp 1.5K resolution (2,800 x 1,260 pixels, 449 PPI pixel density), delivering crisp text, detailed images, and noticeably sharper visuals than conventional Full HD+ displays. Whether reading articles, browsing social media, or streaming videos, everything looks exceptionally clean and well-defined.
The display supports a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate, making scrolling, animations, and day-to-day navigation feel fluid throughout the interface. Touch responsiveness is consistently fast, while the curved edges contribute to a more immersive viewing experience without becoming distracting during everyday use.
One of the biggest strengths of this panel is its overall viewing experience. Colors appear rich and vibrant, contrast levels are excellent thanks to AMOLED technology, and black levels remain deep as expected. Outdoor visibility is also impressive, aided by SGS Five-Star Sunlight-Readable Display Certification, making the screen comfortable to use even under bright sunlight.
For users who spend long hours in front of their phones, vivo has included several eye-comfort technologies. The display is certified by SGS for both Low Blue Light and Low Flicker, helping reduce eye strain during extended reading sessions, late-night browsing, or binge-watching content. Combined with AMOLED’s naturally excellent contrast, the overall viewing experience remains comfortable for prolonged use.
The multimedia experience is further enhanced by the Symmetrical Dual Stereo Speaker setup. Unlike many smartphones where the top speaker serves mainly as an earpiece, vivo uses balanced stereo speakers at both ends (and not at the earpiece) to deliver a wider soundstage and better channel separation. This helps add to the overall audio experience, like watching movies, listening to music, or gaming; the speakers produce loud, clear, and well-balanced audio with noticeable stereo separation.
The physical layout remains familiar and practical. The power button and volume rocker sit comfortably on the right side, while the bottom houses the USB Type-C port, primary speaker, microphone, and dual nano SIM tray. The top adds another speaker for stereo and also one more microphone. Biometric authentication is handled by a fast in-display optical fingerprint sensor, which proved reliable during our initial testing.
Software, User Interface, & FeaturesThe vivo S2 runs OriginOS 6 based on Android 16 out of the box. The OriginOS (formerly FunTouch OS) has matured into one of the cleaner and more polished Android interfaces available, and that evolution is immediately noticeable on the S2 if you own the vivo S1 or older vivo phones with FunTouch OS. The software feels modern, responsive, and well designed, placing equal emphasis on visual refinement, intelligent AI features, and long-term usability rather than overwhelming users with unnecessary complexity.
One of the biggest highlights of the vivo S2 is vivo’s improved software commitment. The company promises 3 generations of Android OS upgrades along with 5 years of security updates, providing users with long-term feature additions and security improvements. Considering the smartphone is positioned in the upper mid-range segment, the level of software support can significantly improve its long-term value if you are planning to keep the device for several years.
Visually, OriginOS 6 adopts a clean design language with refined animations, modern typography, smoother transitions, and better consistency throughout the interface. Menus feel well organized, icons have a more polished appearance, and the overall user experience feels considerably more premium than earlier versions of vivo’s software. For installed apps, you don’t get to see bloatware on the phone, which is certainly impressive. A few apps like Netflix, Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, Truecaller, Amazon, Agoda, LinkedIn, Sony LIV, Booking.com, Agoda, and lastly, the Block Blast game – all these can be removed if not required.
Like most modern Android interfaces, OriginOS 6 offers extensive personalization options, including:
One of the more interesting additions this year is Origin Island, vivo’s interpretation of an intelligent status area around the front camera cutout. Similar to dynamic notification systems found on flagship smartphones, Origin Island presents ongoing activities such as charging status, timers, incoming calls, media playback, navigation updates, and system notifications in a glanceable format without interrupting the user’s workflow. The implementation feels smooth and integrates naturally with the rest of the interface.
In everyday usage, OriginOS 6 performs exceptionally well on the vivo S2. Animations remain consistently fluid, applications launch quickly, and multitasking feels effortless thanks to the performance of the Dimensity 7360-Turbo and the 120 Hz smooth display. During our testing, switching rapidly between social media, messaging apps, web browsers, photo editing, streaming platforms, and games never resulted in noticeable slowdowns or app reloads. The software also benefits from the phone’s 120 Hz AMOLED display, making scrolling, navigation, and gesture animations feel remarkably smooth throughout the system. Combined with the large vapor chamber cooling system underneath, the overall user experience remains consistently responsive even during prolonged usage.
Artificial Intelligence is clearly one of the biggest focus areas of OriginOS 6. vivo has integrated several tools that can improve day-to-day productivity. Among the AI-powered features available on the vivo S2 are:
Google Gemini serves as the primary AI assistant throughout the system, providing contextual assistance for writing, productivity, research, planning, translations, and general day-to-day queries. Since Gemini is integrated directly into the operating system, interactions feel seamless and readily accessible whenever required.
Another feature that quickly becomes useful is Circle to Search. Instead of copying text or taking screenshots to perform searches, users can simply circle an object, image, or text displayed on the screen to instantly launch a Google search without leaving the current application. Whether identifying products, landmarks, or unfamiliar terms, it significantly speeds up everyday searches.
vivo has also included several productivity-oriented AI tools. AI Creation assists with content generation, while AI Transcript Assist converts voice recordings into searchable text with smart summaries, making it particularly useful for meetings, interviews, lectures, and note-taking. AI Captions provides real-time subtitles for supported audio and video content, improving accessibility during media consumption.
The built-in Smart Call Assistant adds another layer of convenience during phone conversations, while vivo Office Kit simplifies document handling, file management, and productivity workflows. For users frequently transferring media between compatible devices, Shake and Share provides a fast way to share large files – including high-resolution photos and 4K videos – without requiring mobile data or sacrificing image quality.
Connectivity enhancements are equally noteworthy. vivo introduces AI SuperLink, which intelligently monitors available wireless networks and automatically switches to the strongest connection in challenging environments such as elevators, underground parking areas, trains, and crowded public spaces. According to vivo, the technology can improve network performance significantly in weak-signal scenarios, helping maintain a more stable online experience.

Powering the vivo S2 is the new 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7360-Turbo SoC, a customized version of the original Dimensity 7360 platform designed with additional vendor-level optimizations for smoother gaming performance and improved sustained responsiveness. While the underlying hardware remains identical to the standard Dimensity 7360, the Turbo variant incorporates software-level tuning to better manage CPU scheduling, thermal behavior, and burst performance during demanding workloads.
Built on TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process, the processor targets users who want a smooth day-to-day experience while still offering enough horsepower for gaming, content creation, multitasking, and long-term usage. vivo claims an AnTuTu benchmark score of around 970,000 points (close to 1M), placing the chipset comfortably in the upper mid-range category.
The chipset is paired with 8 GB LPDDR4X RAM and either 128 GB or 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage, along with support for up to 8 GB Extended RAM. While LPDDR4X isn’t the newest memory standard available today, the combination of LPDDR4X RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, and OriginOS 6 optimizations delivers a smooth and responsive experience during everyday usage. However, I would still prefer the faster LPDDR5 RAM at this price. Also, if you are a performance user and want more power in the ₹40k price range, you have the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, Dimensity 8500 Ultra, and similar others.
MediaTek Dimensity 7360-Turbo PlatformThe MediaTek Dimensity 7360-Turbo features an efficient octa-core architecture consisting of:

In day-to-day usage, the vivo S2 consistently delivers a fluid experience. Browsing social media, editing photos, streaming high-resolution videos, navigating with maps, attending video calls, or switching between multiple productivity applications, the smartphone remains responsive throughout. Combined with OriginOS 6 and the 120 Hz AMOLED display, animations feel smooth and overall system responsiveness remains excellent.
One advantage of the Dimensity 7360-Turbo is its balance between performance and efficiency. The chipset delivers enough performance for demanding workloads while maintaining excellent battery life, something that becomes especially noticeable when paired with the phone’s enormous 7,050 mAh BlueVolt battery.
To keep temperatures under control, vivo equips the S2 with a 3,800 mm² Vapor Chamber Cooling System and a total cooling area exceeding 23,000 mm². According to vivo, the thermal system offers significantly improved heat transfer compared to previous generations, allowing the processor to sustain higher performance during gaming, prolonged camera usage, and extended multimedia sessions.
During our initial testing, thermal management proved impressive. Even after extended gaming sessions or recording multiple 4K videos, the device remained comfortable to hold without developing excessive hotspots. Heat is distributed evenly across the chassis rather than concentrating around the camera module or processor area, helping maintain both comfort and sustained performance.

Although the vivo S2 isn’t marketed as a dedicated gaming smartphone, it delivers a surprisingly capable gaming experience thanks to its modern chipset, efficient cooling system, and high-refresh-rate display.
Gaming highlights include:
vivo claims the S2 can maintain stable 90 FPS gameplay in BGMI for up to 3 hours at an ambient temperature of 30°C, and during our usage, the phone handled popular titles like BGMI, Call of Duty: Mobile, Mobile Legends, Free Fire MAX, Asphalt Legends Unite, and Honor of Kings without any major issues. Competitive games feel smooth, while everyday casual titles run effortlessly.
The 120 Hz AMOLED display contributes significantly to the gaming experience by delivering fluid animations and responsive touch interactions. Combined with the stereo speakers, games feel immersive with clear directional audio and balanced sound output. The symmetrical speaker configuration provides noticeably better stereo separation compared to traditional hybrid speaker setups.
Another useful addition is Bypass Charging. Once the battery reaches around 20%, the phone can intelligently power the device directly while reducing heat generation during charging. This helps keep temperatures lower during long gaming sessions while minimizing stress on the battery.
Connectivity is another area where vivo has introduced meaningful improvements. The AI SuperLink system intelligently monitors available wireless connections and automatically switches to the strongest network in challenging environments. According to vivo, this can significantly improve internet speeds in locations such as elevators, underground parking areas, and public transport, helping maintain more stable online gaming sessions.
The large 7,050 mAh battery is another major advantage for gamers. It comfortably supports several hours of continuous gameplay without requiring frequent charging, making the vivo S2 an excellent companion for users who spend long periods gaming, streaming, or consuming multimedia content.

The vivo S2 places a strong emphasis on photography and content creation, combining a high-resolution Sony main sensor, 4K video recording on both front and rear cameras, Aura Light Portrait, and several AI-powered imaging features. Rather than adding multiple cameras purely for numbers, vivo has focused on improving the overall shooting experience through better image processing, stabilization, lighting, and software enhancements.
Camera Hardware OverviewAt the core is the 50 MP Sony IMX852 sensor, which serves as the primary imaging sensor for almost every shooting scenario. Combined with Optical Image Stabilization and vivo’s image processing, the camera is designed to deliver detailed photos with balanced colors, natural contrast, and improved low-light performance. During our initial usage, the camera produced pleasing colors without appearing overly saturated, while dynamic range remained consistent across most daylight scenes.
One of the major highlights of the vivo S2 is its support for 4K video recording on both the front and rear cameras. While many smartphones still limit the selfie camera to 1080p recording, vivo allows creators to capture high-resolution videos regardless of which camera is being used. This makes the S2 particularly appealing for vloggers, travel creators, and users who frequently record social media content.
The 32 MP front-facing camera is another major strength. It captures detailed selfies with natural skin tones and good facial detail in daylight conditions. The camera also features a wider field of view, making it easier to fit multiple people into the frame during group selfies. Combined with 4K recording support, the front camera delivers a noticeably better content creation experience than many smartphones in the segment.
vivo has also integrated its signature Aura Light Portrait system into the S2. Unlike a conventional LED flash, Aura Light provides softer and more evenly distributed illumination, helping portraits appear more natural in low-light environments. Users can also adjust the brightness level to better match different lighting conditions, making the feature useful for both photography and video recording.
Portrait photography benefits from the dedicated 2 MP Bokeh camera, which assists with background separation while the main sensor captures image details. Subject detection performs well in most situations, producing clean edge separation and natural-looking background blur without appearing overly artificial.
The camera application includes a wide range of shooting modes and creative tools, including:
vivo also bundles several AI-powered photography features to simplify editing and improve image quality directly on the smartphone. These include:
Among these, AI Erase 2.0 proves particularly useful by allowing users to quickly remove unwanted people or distracting objects from photos with a single tap. The processing is quite fast and generally produces clean-looking results. This makes it a practical tool for casual editing without requiring third-party applications.
Another standout feature is Dual View Video, which records simultaneously using both the front and rear cameras. Users can customize layouts, aspect ratios, and beauty effects, making it especially useful for travel vlogs, reaction videos, interviews, and social media content where both the subject and surroundings need to be captured at the same time.
The camera application itself feels fast and responsive. Switching between modes is quick, shutter response is nearly instantaneous, and image processing completes rapidly even when capturing 50 MP photos. Features like Aura Light Portrait, AI Erase 2.0, and Dual View Video are well integrated into the interface, making them easy to access without cluttering the overall camera experience.
Overall, the vivo S2 delivers a well-rounded camera package that prioritizes reliable photography over excessive camera counts. The combination of the 50 MP Sony IMX852 sensor with OIS, 32 MP wide-angle selfie camera, 4K recording on both cameras, Aura Light Portrait, and a useful collection of AI-powered editing features makes it an excellent smartphone for everyday photography, portrait shots, and content creation. We’ve shared some camera samples to show you the image quality of the cameras.

Battery life is one of the standout highlights of the vivo S2, thanks to its large 7,050 mAh BlueVolt battery. Despite housing one of the biggest batteries in its segment, vivo has managed to keep the smartphone remarkably slim, measuring just 7.99 mm in Sapphire Blue and Regal Bronze, while the Silk White is still noticeably slim at 8.10 mm. The combination of a high-density BlueVolt battery and efficient internal design allows the vivo S2 to offer flagship-level endurance without the bulk typically associated with large-capacity batteries.
According to vivo, the S2 can deliver up to 33 hours of video playback, 43.7 hours of local music playback, 49 hours of 5G voice calls, and 12.6 hours of Free Fire gaming on a single charge. While actual battery life naturally depends on network conditions, display brightness, refresh rate, and individual usage patterns, these figures indicate that the smartphone is built to comfortably handle demanding all-day usage.
In our everyday usage involving social media, messaging, web browsing, video streaming, photography, navigation, and occasional gaming, the large battery should easily last through a full day with plenty of charge remaining. Moderate users can realistically expect close to two days of usage before needing to recharge, making the vivo S2 an excellent companion.

Beyond raw capacity, vivo has also focused on long-term battery reliability. The company claims the BlueVolt battery is engineered to retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,600 complete charge cycles, which translates to roughly 6 years of battery health under typical usage. This should help maintain consistent battery performance even after years of regular charging.
The vivo S2 also introduces several intelligent battery management features. Bypass Charging intelligently supplies power directly to the system once the battery reaches around 20% during supported scenarios, helping reduce heat generation while gaming or using demanding applications during charging. Battery Life Extender automatically activates when the battery reaches critically low levels, providing enough reserve power for emergency calls and essential tasks when users are away from a charger.
Charging is handled by 44W FlashCharge, with vivo including the 44W FlashCharge adapter inside the retail box. While it isn’t the fastest charging solution in its class, it strikes a reasonable balance between charging speed, battery longevity, and thermal management for a battery of this size. We could certainly expect at least 66W or closer to 80W FlashCharge fast charging support for this segment. The smartphone also supports reverse wired charging, allowing it to charge compatible accessories or even another smartphone when required.
Verdict – vivo S2 ReviewThe vivo S2 successfully revives the company’s vivo S-series in India with a smartphone that focuses on premium design, immersive multimedia, capable cameras, long battery life, and a refined software experience rather than chasing benchmark numbers alone. It strikes a balanced approach by combining flagship-inspired aesthetics with functional everyday features, making it an attractive option for users who value style just as much as performance.
One of the biggest strengths of the vivo S2 is undoubtedly its design. The slim 7.99 mm profile, sleek matte finish back, Skyline Camera Module, and curved AMOLED display give the smartphone a distinctly premium feel in hand. vivo has also added to its elegant design the IP68 + IP69 ratings, five MIL-STD-810H military-grade certifications, and features like Wet-Hand Touch and Rain Protection, making the phone far more durable than its stylish appearance might suggest.
For the display, the 1.5K 120 Hz 3D Curved AMOLED offers vibrant colors, excellent sharpness, SGS-certified eye protection, and high outdoor visibility in addition to the symmetrical dual stereo speakers, delivering an immersive multimedia experience.
Performance is handled by the MediaTek Dimensity 7360-Turbo, which delivers a smooth and responsive experience for everyday multitasking, content consumption, and gaming. Combined with 8 GB RAM, a large 3,800 mm² vapor chamber cooling system, and OriginOS 6 optimizations, the vivo S2 remains fluid during daily use while maintaining stable performance during extended gaming sessions.
The camera system is equally well-rounded. The 50 MP Sony IMX852 main camera with OIS, 32 MP selfie camera, and 4K video recording on both the front and rear cameras make the S2 a strong option for photography enthusiasts and content creators. Features such as Aura Light Portrait, AI Erase 2.0, Dual View Video, Live Photo, and various AI-powered editing tools further enhance the overall imaging experience, offering plenty of creative flexibility beyond standard point-and-shoot photography.
The large 7,050 mAh BlueVolt battery comfortably delivers all-day endurance, while 44W FlashCharge, Bypass Charging, Battery Life Extender, reverse wired charging, and vivo’s claimed 6-year battery health provide added confidence for long-term ownership. Despite the large battery, vivo has managed to keep the phone slim and comfortable to hold, which is an impressive engineering achievement. While the 44W isn’t the fastest charging solution in its class, it should be a reasonable balance between charging speed, battery longevity, and thermal management for a battery of this size. We could certainly expect 66W (if not 80W) FlashCharge fast charging support for the price the S2 is offered at.
The OriginOS 6 based on Android 16 feels polished, responsive, and feature-rich, and more likely bloatware-free while also offering useful AI-powered tools such as Google Gemini integration, Circle to Search, AI Transcript Assist, AI Captions, Smart Call Assistant, Origin Island, vivo Office Kit, and Shake and Share. vivo’s commitment to 3 Android OS upgrades and 5 years of security updates adds to the long-term value of the device.
At the end, the vivo S2 delivers a well-balanced flagship-inspired experience offering an elegant design, a vibrant curved AMOLED display, dependable performance, capable cameras, excellent battery life, and a polished software experience in one package. At ₹35,999 (combined with bank offers), the vivo S2 is a compelling choice if you are looking for a stylish all-rounder.
