WASHINGTON D.C (VINnews)-White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller on Monday sharply criticized pharmaceutical companies and elements of the medical industry for what he called a “medical travesty,” accusing them of pressuring parents to give newborns multiple vaccines shortly after birth with insufficient study of long-term effects.

Speaking in the Oval Office amid discussion of childhood immunization policy under the Trump administration, Miller said millions of parents have felt compelled to accept five, six or seven shots at once for infants just weeks out of the hospital.

“They’re told it will be normal. Your kid will have a fever of 103 for three or four days. Your kid will stop eating for a week,” Miller said. “Your kid’s going to change all their sleep. Don’t worry. It’s totally fine. It’s totally normal. Nobody has studied it. Nobody’s looked at it.”

He continued: “Nobody’s thought about it. The pressure from the pharmaceutical industry and from aspects of the medical industry to pump your kids full of shots days after birth with no understanding the long-term consequences has been a medical travesty.”

Miller’s comments came as the administration continues efforts to narrow and increase flexibility in the childhood vaccine schedule. Federal recommendations for universal childhood vaccinations were previously reduced to cover 11 core diseases, down from a broader set of recommendations that critics and some officials have counted as high as 72 doses when including annual influenza and COVID-19 shots through adolescence.

The remarks reflect ongoing Trump administration priorities under Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to emphasize parental choice, review of the schedule against practices in peer countries, and greater scrutiny of combination shots and timing.
