LOS ANGELES (VINnews) — Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Tuesday that his department has stopped “billions and billions of dollars worth of fraud” by deploying artificial intelligence and other systems to identify suspicious claims before taxpayer funds are paid out.

Kennedy made the remarks during a White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud press conference focused on Los Angeles’ homelessness response. He sharply criticized the Biden administration’s handling of health care fraud and specifically accused former HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra of failing to curb it.

“He let the people steal the money,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy said HHS is now using AI, machine counting systems and other algorithms to flag potential fraud in advance. “We now don’t pay anything that we suspect to be fraudulent,” he said.

The comments came as administration officials, including Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner, highlighted concerns over waste and mismanagement in Los Angeles homeless services programs and promoted alternatives such as faith-based recovery models.
