The Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green will be shutting down for three weeks in what we were told was due to supplier-related parts constraints. We feel like this has been in the plans for a while now due to the way Chevrolet handled dealer allocations over the last month.
Before we announce those dates which were told to BGAP’s auto workers during an all-hands meeting on Tuesday morning, let’s set the table with what was previously announced by GM. The end of the 2026 model year was previously stated as May 29th. It was assumed that GM would start the 2027 model year on the following Monday, June 1st, however, GM never officially communicated the Start of Regular Production to dealers as being June 1st. Again, it makes us think these closures have been planned for quite some time now.
What we learned today thanks to our friends over at the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com is that the Bowling Green Assembly Plant will close for two consecutive weeks starting April 27 and then the third closure week will happen beginning June 1st:
• April 27 – May 1
• May 4 – May 8
• June 1 – June 5
While these dates have been confirmed by a representative of the Assembly Plant, no other information as to the plans for the 2027 Start of Regular Production (SORP) was communicated.
We’ll share any related communications from GM to their dealers relating to the start of the 2027 model year as they are received. We are still waiting on a number of action items before dealers can start doing any pre-orders for the upcoming model year which includes official pricing and the ’27 Order Guide. Generally (but not always), the full build and buy configurator going live is your Bat Signal for when dealers will get their first allocations.
Stay tuned!
