The mid engine Corvette isn’t just a performance milestone — it’s an economic engine, too.

New data from General Motors shows just how far the impact of the Bowling Green Assembly Plant reaches across Kentucky.

The plant employs 1,200 people, but the ripple effect is far larger. GM estimates each job supports 8.8 additional jobs across the region — everything from suppliers to small businesses that benefit from the plant’s presence.

GM also works with 173 Kentucky suppliers, and its capital and operational spending generates another $1.6 billion in economic activity.

“The numbers really support people… All of that economic activity certainly helps support the people behind the numbers. And that’s what I’m most proud of,” Plant Director Ray Theriault said.

As the Bowling Green plant closes in on a half-century of Corvette production, Theriault says it’s a relationship built on mutual support.

“Bowling Green embraced Corvette, and Corvette embraced Bowling Green. The community has embraced the plant as well as it has, and the plant embraces the community.”

Futhermore, GM says it has contributed $860 million through Community Impact grants over the past five years, and employees volunteer to help local organizations.

Theriault says that’s the real story.

“We’ve talked about billions of dollars… The important part to remember is all those numbers translate to families. They translate to people.”
