Naperville could scrap grocery tax in favor of higher sales tax – Illinois Policy

State lawmakers allowed local governments to adopt their own 1 percent grocery tax beginning Jan. 1, 2026. Naperville did so to avoid a projected $6.5 million budget shortfall. But Naperville only received $511,000 in its first remittance from the state and nearly $600,000 in June.
