Lo Kai Restaurant & Lounge, a staple in the Dracut community since 1972, announced Wednesday on its website that it’s closing for good next Saturday, Aug. 8.

“We recognize that this news may come as a shock, but we invite you to come in and enjoy a pupu platter, a Mai Tai, or anything you would like before we conclude our time here on Lakeview Avenue,” the restaurant said.

“It has been our utmost pleasure serving our customers, many of whom became our dear friends and family,” the post went on. “We thank you for choosing the Lo Kai for your family dinners, your late-night outings, your private parties, your weddings, your fundraisers, your concerts, and so, so much more.”

The restaurant said closing was a decision that “did not come lightly” and “a number of factors” led to it being “the best course of action.”

The town celebrated the restaurant’s 50th year with a post on its website in 2023. “If you’ve never been to the Lo Kai, you’re not really a Dracut resident,” it began.

Longtime customers have been sharing remembrances on Facebook, of the food, atmosphere, and live music.

“Made out with a guy in your parking lot 35 years ago on a Friday night. We just celebrated 27 years of marriage. Thanks for the memories,” one woman shared on a Merrimack Valley Eats post announcing the news.

“Dracut will never be the same,” another commented under the restaurant’s announcement.
