One of Boston’s most acclaimed Mediterranean restaurants is closing its doors. Chickadee, the James Beard-nominated Seaport restaurant, announced that it will close Saturday, ending an eight-year run in the Innovation and Design building.
The restaurant announced the news on Instagram, saying that “with a full heart (and yes, a few tears)” its last day of service will be July 18. In the post, Chickadee thanked the city and the Seaport neighborhood for giving the restaurant “a place to grow.”
Chef John DaSilva and beverage director Ted Kilpatrick opened Chickadee at 21 Drydock Ave. in 2018, after meeting while working at the now-closed No. 9 Park. The restaurant quickly earned national recognition, receiving a James Beard nomination for Best New Restaurant, while DaSilva went on to earn three additional nods for Best Chef: Northeast.
During the pandemic, Chickadee staff pivoted to a robust takeout program that helped sustain the business. The restaurant was known for its Mediterranean-inspired dishes like the squid ink fusilli and inventive craft cocktails like the cosmonaut milk punch.

In its farewell, the restaurant invited diners to stop by for a “last taste, a last toast, and a last ‘hello’ at the bar.”
