We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on a project funded by the Czech Science foundation which objective is to use a complex system approach to model magmatic systems. The project involves building a database of the characteristics of magmatic systems, building a network model of a volcanic plumbing system, and developing numerical models to investigate how the elements of the network connect and how magma flows through the network.

We are looking for a numerate early career researcher with experience in the study of magmatic systems and a strong interest in statistics and modelling.

We are looking for the following skills:

  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • Good knowledge of magmatic systems
  • Experience in programming
  • Good mastering of oral and written English
  • Scientific curiosity and scientific rigour

The postdoctoral researcher will be based in Prague (Czech Republic) at the Institute of Geophysics of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The researcher will work in a transdisciplinary team of Earth scientists, mathematicians, and complex system scientists.

We are offering:

  • To work on a funded project.
  • Travel opportunities for collaborations and conferences.
  • Opportunity to build an international collaborative network.
  • Live in Prague, a culturally rich vibrant city in central Europe.

Starting date is flexible but no later than November 2026. Funding is available until December 2028. To apply, please send a CV, a motivation letter, and the details of two referees to Catherine Annen (annen@ig.cas.cz).

Deadline for applications: 25 May 2026.

For more information, contact Catherine Annen (annen@ig.cas.cz).
