Google has announced two new additions to Google Pay in India – Ask Google Pay, a Gemini-powered conversational AI assistant, and the new Google Pay Flex SBI Card developed in partnership with SBI Card. The latest features are designed to help users better understand their spending, learn financial concepts, and manage credit directly from the Google Pay app.

While Ask Google Pay focuses on personalised financial insights using AI, the new Flex SBI Card brings digital-first credit card services, rewards, and EMI options to eligible users.

Ask Google Pay is an opt-in AI-powered experience integrated directly into the Google Pay app. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI models, the assistant allows users to ask questions using text or voice and receive personalised responses based on their Google Pay transaction history and, where permission has been granted, their CIBIL report data.

The AI assistant supports 10 Indian languages and aims to simplify everyday money management.

With Ask Google Pay, users can:

• Analyse spending patterns and understand where money is being spent
• Receive personalised savings suggestions
• Discover suitable credit card offers based on spending habits
• Learn about financial topics such as SIPs, credit scores and compounding
• Understand financial concepts including tax regimes and investment basics

Google notes that the feature is intended for educational purposes only and should not be considered professional financial advice. Since it is AI-powered, responses may occasionally be inaccurate.

Google says Ask Google Pay only works when users enable the Personalization within Google Pay setting, which is disabled by default.

According to the company:

• Personal data remains within the Google Pay ecosystem
• Information is not shared with third-party applications
• User data is not used to train Google’s AI models
• The AI assistant cannot access full debit or credit card numbers, complete bank account numbers, or government-issued financial IDs

Google also advises users not to share passwords, PINs, OTPs, or other sensitive financial information while interacting with the AI assistant.

Google has also introduced the Google Pay Flex SBI Card, a new digital-first credit card issued in partnership with SBI Card.

Users can apply for the card directly through the Google Pay app without any physical paperwork. The card supports transactions on both the RuPay and Visa payment networks.

The new credit card includes several built-in benefits:

• Paperless application through the Google Pay app
• Support for both RuPay and Visa payment networks
• Earn Stars on every Flex transaction, where 1 Star = ₹1
• Instant redemption of Stars on eligible purchases
• Convert outstanding credit card bills into EMI options

Google says eligible Flex card users will soon receive:

• 50% discount on the Google AI Plus subscription for one year
• Choice of 400 GB or 2 TB cloud storage plans
• Additional Stars on eligible everyday purchases
• Special discounts on Google Pixel smartphones

The Ask Google Pay AI assistant is currently rolling out to a limited number of eligible users in India through the Google Pay app.

The Google Pay Flex SBI Card is available starting today for eligible users directly within the Google Pay app.
