Google has announced a major expansion of Gemini in Chrome, bringing its AI-powered browsing assistant to additional regions across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and other markets. Alongside the wider rollout, the company is introducing new image editing capabilities, enhanced personalization features, deeper integrations with Google services, and additional security protections designed to make browsing more intelligent and productive.

Google Chrome Gemini features Jan 2026

Gemini in Chrome is designed to function as an AI-powered browsing companion that helps users summarize web pages, compare information across multiple tabs, answer questions about online content, and complete tasks without leaving their current browsing session.

Gemini in Chrome Gets Smarter

The latest update significantly expands Gemini’s capabilities by integrating more closely with Google’s ecosystem of services.

Users can now perform a variety of actions directly through Gemini in Chrome, including:

  • Schedule meetings using Google Calendar
  • Check locations and directions through Google Maps
  • Draft and send emails with Gmail
  • Ask questions about YouTube videos
  • Summarize webpages and compare information across tabs

Google says these integrations are designed to reduce context switching and help users accomplish tasks more efficiently while browsing.

AI Image Editing Comes to Chrome

One of the biggest additions is support for Google’s new Nano Banana 2 image editing capabilities inside the Gemini side panel.

The feature allows users to transform images found online using simple text prompts directly within Chrome. Instead of relying on separate editing applications, users can make visual modifications and creative adjustments through natural language commands while browsing.

Google says the feature aims to streamline content creation and visual experimentation without interrupting the browsing experience.

Personalized AI with Context Awareness

Google is also expanding its Personal Intelligence initiative, allowing Gemini to provide more tailored responses based on information available across a user’s Google services.

By connecting services such as:

  • Gmail
  • Google Photos
  • YouTube
  • Google Search

Gemini can deliver personalized recommendations, insights, and answers that are more relevant to each user.

Additionally, Gemini in Chrome can now remember context from previous conversations, enabling more natural follow-up interactions and reducing the need to repeatedly provide the same information.

Security & Privacy Enhancements

Google emphasized that the new AI experiences have been designed with security and user control in mind.

According to the company, the underlying AI models are trained to identify and resist known attack methods, including prompt injection attempts that could manipulate AI behavior.

Additional safeguards include:

  • Protection against malicious prompts
  • Verification systems for sensitive requests
  • User confirmation before completing critical actions
  • Enhanced security monitoring for AI-assisted tasks

These measures are intended to ensure that users remain in control of actions involving personal data, communications, or account access.

Availability

Google confirmed that Gemini in Chrome and many of Chrome’s latest AI features are rolling out starting today for desktop and iOS users across additional global markets, including Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.

Personal Intelligence features are currently available on desktop for users subscribed to:

  • Google AI Plus
  • Google AI Pro
  • Google AI Ultra

Google says it will continue expanding AI-powered Chrome experiences and integrations over the coming months.
