It was a wet weekend in mid-Missouri, and some of that rain spilled into the start of the work week with scattered storms on radar early Monday morning.

Several rounds of rain came over the course of the weekend, beginning Friday when rain stuck around a little longer than expected. This left folks with a soggy start to the weekend.

Then, Saturday morning we tracked storms spreading in from the west that sent showers cascading across the region.

A very similar pattern developed on Sunday, with showers and storms spreading from west to east.

After midnight Monday morning, strong to severe storms brought, among other threats, soaking heavy rain in some of the wettest locations from over the weekend. This left some with flooding early Monday, and prompted a water rescue in Boone County.

This soaker of a weekend padded our totals for May, leaving Columbia and Jefferson City above average on the month. Columbia Regional Airport recorded more than 3.5 inches in excess of what is considered average for May. At 8.35 inches of rain, May 2026 should go down as a top ten wettest May on record in Columbia, after April 2026 registered as the 8th wettest April. That's two months in a row of at least 8 inches of rain at Columbia Regional Airport. Adding in March's 4.23" of rain, spring 2026 will move to third wettest spring on record in Columbia with 20.72" recorded at the airport. The previous number three spot was held by spring 1990 when 20.57" was recorded.
