The police on Friday (July 24, 2026) arrested four transgender persons on charges of extorting money from an auditor and assaulting a Head Constable attached to the Thudiyalur police station in Coimbatore.

Mobina (27), Magathi (21), Iniya (22) and Orange (21) were arrested in connection with the incident that took place on Mettupalayam Road late on Thursday.

A 49-year-old auditor from Annur complained to the police that a group of transgender persons extorted ₹11,700 from him through UPI payments when he halted his car on Mettupalayam road late on Thursday. Police personnel from Thudiyalur station reached the spot around 11.30 p.m. based on his complaint.

When the police personnel questioned the transgender persons about the auditor’s allegations, the group reportedly abused the officers verbally and damaged their vehicle. They also allegedly assaulted Head Constable Selvaraj.

The police registered two cases against the four persons based on the complaints from the auditor and the policeman. They were arrested and remanded in judicial custody on Friday, said a police officer.
