The Newcastle left-back has made a number of those runs and caused problems all afternoon. Finally he gets his reward (with a bit of luck).

Harvey Barnes slips in Matheos Ferreira with a brilliant reverse pass. The Newcastle youngster fires a low effort towards the bottom loeft-hand corner from 10-yards out bu Adam Desbois is equal to it.

Moments later, Jacob Murphy tries to loft the ball over Desbois after being played in behind but it goes over the bar.

The time is ticking down here. I wouldn't expect any stoppage time given the friendly nature of this game.

Gateshead are digging in but can they see it through?

First chance for Newcastle United supporters to see Ewen Jaouen in action. The summer signing replaces Nick Pope.

Sean Neave and Mason Miley also come off, Mason Miley and Matheos Ferreira come on.

Miodrag Pivas replaces Fabian Schar in the only change for Newcastle.

Gateshead with several changes. Fenton John, Luke Supyk, Jack Robinson and Josh Anifowose are replaced by a Trialist, Tyrelle Newton, Keaton Ward and Dom Telford.

Lewis Hall bursts into the area and goes to ground under pressure. Newcastle players appeal for a penalty, but the referee awards a corner kick.

Harvey Barnes drives into the box and tries to pick out the bottom corner when through one-on-one with Desbois. It just misses Murphy, who slides in at the far post.

The ball stays in play and Newcastle recycle it back into the box. Murphy forces Desbois into another sprawling save.

Newcastle are turning the heat up on Gateshead but the home side are hanging in there.

Goalkeeper Desbois is determined to show what he can do and he's been immaculate so far.

Sean Steur has impressed so far. He looks tidy on the ball and has just tried his luck from the edge of the box.

It goes a couple of yards over the bar but Newcastle are probing for an equaliser.

Tommy Lavery plays a long ball forward which catches Newcastle on the hop. Luke Supyk races onto the loose ball and the Heed are two on one.

Fortunately for Newcastle, his cross towards Boatswain is overhit. The Gateshead striker had a tap in if the ball had reached him.

There's no changes at the half-time interval for Newcastle. The Magpies were in control total control, but trail after Luke Supyk's opener.

What will the second 45 have in store?

It started well but things have dipped a little.

Jacob Murphy is played in behind and puts in a really dangerous ball to Barnes at the far post. The Newcastle winger should score but gets his footing all wrong and Desbois pounces on the ball.

Newcastle have missed a number of important chances.

Newcastle have had a flurry of corners, the latest of which they've played short to Steur. The new arrival tries to find a man at the far post but Gateshead are able to clear their lines.

Newcastle's new signing, Sean Steur, has made a steady start here. Trying to play through the lines and get the Magpies moving forward.

We're 20 minutes into the game but he's looked good.

Newcastle have had their chances early on and could be ahead after chances for Sean Neave, Joe Willock and Harvey Barnes.

A lack of sharpness I'd say.

The latter rolls it to Barnes who curls an effort wide of the post.
