Kingdom Hearts fans are no strangers to scarce, infrequent news on the series, particularly when it comes to the mainline games. Kingdom Hearts IV was officially revealed over four years ago, and next month Disney's D23 celebration will feature a "DEEP DIVE into KINGDOM HEARTS" panel at the event.

Next year, Kingdom Hearts will celebrate its 25th anniversary, so it's no surprise to see a retrospective panel like this pop up. Based on the description it is likely more of just a retrospective as it is about how Kingdom Hearts "united Disney, Pixar, and Square Enix, with insights from the creative minds, character voices, and more behind the magic."

There is no specific mention of Kingdom Hearts IV in the announcement, but D23 is definitely an event for huge announcements. Movies are regularly announced, additions to the parks, and pretty much anything Disney you can think of. This year, it's very likely where we'll see our first look at Avengers: Doomsday, for example.

We just got our first glimpse at something new from Kingdom Hearts IV recently as well, with a teaser trailer announcing it will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. 

Kingdom Hearts III released back in January of 2019, over seven and a half years ago, which may sound like a long time but the gap between II and III was 14 years. That might dampen expectations on some news soon, but they've also shown far more of Kingdom Hearts IV than they had of III at this point between releases.

As of now, there is no official word that we will hear anything about Kingdom Hearts IV next month. The D23 event will take place from August 14th to August 16th, so we'll find out soon in any case.
