We all die. It's inevitable. Some deaths, however, are so unexpected that they make you question all the "what if's" of how things could've gone differently.

A little while ago, we shared some tragic real-life deaths that were caused by ordinary things. Here are the deaths you shared in response:

1. "My husband’s friend came home from work to find his wife dead in their kitchen trash can. The top half of her body was inside the trash, while her lower body was still semi-standing. Apparently, while she was cleaning earlier in the day, she had mixed two household cleaning products in the trash can. She unknowingly created a noxious gas, which incapacitated her when she leaned over. She suffocated. I had always told my husband to be careful when mixing cleaning products and to try to refrain from doing so altogether. Years ago, he would brush off my warnings. Now he knows why."

2. "My reading buddy passed away from a brain-eating amoeba. When I was in fifth grade, we had reading buddies that were in first grade, and we would help read books to them. Well, a few years later, he and his family went swimming in a nearby river. He completely submerged his head and inhaled a brain-eating amoeba. A few days later, he fell ill and was pronounced brain dead. His cause of death was meningitis, but it stemmed from the amoeba. He was nine years old when he passed. I’m 26 now, and I think about him and his family all the time."

3. "About 25 years ago, my buddy, who was a dive master and salvage diver, got a call from the county sheriff. A pickup was parked by a lake with the lights on and the driver’s door open. A dog was running around, but there was no driver. The scene told the story. The guy stopped to let his dog go for a run. The dog went out onto the frozen lake and broke through. The man went to save his dog and broke through himself and froze/drowned while the dog got out. My buddy called me to help him do the dive. I’ll never forget the wide-open eyes of the victim in the harsh glare of the bright dive lights, staring at me. To this day, I still feel like he’s angry we didn’t get there in time."

4. "My great uncle had just built a dream home for my great aunt. They had finally gotten married after 50 years of love. He already had his retirement date set. He pulled over on the way to work to help a woman change a tire. He saw her little girl run into the road and dove for her to save her from an oncoming semi truck. She was safe. He was decapitated. I really wish this weren't true."

5. "Girl I went to high school with, she was even in some of my classes. Her mom was driving her to school when a logging truck crashed right in front of them. Turns out the driver was under the influence. A log went right through their windshield and into her head, killing her instantly. The news spread through the school that day like wildfire before we even got confirmation. It was so surreal."

6. "My mom’s coworker was very active and in his 30s, and his wife just had their third child. He was playing basketball with his older son (who was around 10) and sat down on the bench because of a headache that had just come on. Then he fell forward, dead. It was an aneurysm they think was caused by tripping in his driveway that morning (made of gravel) after he had knee surgery. They think his tripping dislodged a blood clot. He was the nicest guy, and his wife and kids were all lovely as well. But I can’t imagine how traumatic that was for his son, who sat down right next to his dad (hence how we know he had a bad headache) when it happened."

7. "A really, REALLY good friend who was around 30 died from sleep apnea. He was a big dude who snored. He got bigger, and no one ever mentioned to him that he was gasping for air in the middle of the night. I miss him so much. Rip 'jonny5.'"

8. "A classmate of mine, the summer after graduating high school, took flying lessons. The instructor had a heart attack just after takeoff and fell against the controls, dead, causing a crash. Killed an 18-year-old young man."

9. "Back in the day (1970s), I still lived in the Boston area. A teenage friend of our group had an older sister who had just had a baby. Someone in their family gifted the whole family a ride in an airplane. The young mom got off the plane, disoriented, and walked into a spinning propeller. I think the pilot might have been her brother, and most of the family saw it happen."

10. "A couple of friends were fishing on Lake Okeechobee. A bad storm appeared to be building across the lake, so they headed away from it. In the bright sunshine and miles from the storm, a lightning bolt hit the driver in the chest, killing him instantly, knocking out the passenger, and crippling the boat. When the passenger came to, he realized the situation, but every bit of electronics on the boat was toast. He had to wait for another boat in the area to call for help."

11. "My boyfriend and a friend of his decided to get a few drinks after work one night and ended up at the railroad tracks afterward. They were just watching the trains go by when my boyfriend decided to get a little closer. It was dark, and he couldn’t have seen the handrails that stuck out from the sides of the train, and one of them hit him in the head. The train was going about 60 mph. He died a few hours later while in surgery. His friend never got over witnessing what happened, and he ended up passing away from an overdose just a few years afterward. A momentary lapse of judgment is all it takes. It’s been nearly 20 years, and I still think about him every day."

12. "A second cousin of my dad returned from Europe as a soldier by train. It was recorded that he boarded the train, and when it reached its final destination, he was nowhere to be found. A search was made, and a couple more were made over the next couple of years. Neither he nor his body ever showed up. I met his widow as a young man in the 1980s, and she still grieved him and never remarried."

13. "A little boy went missing in our neighborhood. After three days of searching for him, someone noticed a patch of weeds on a back lot. Went over and found a fresh hole with some rotted boards exposed. An old abandoned well had been covered over many years before and forgotten. The youngster had fallen through and died at the bottom of the well."

14. "I know of three different people this year alone who died falling from a short distance and hit the back of their heads. One that was an older person, and the other two were in their 30s."

15. "I know two people who died from falling trees. One was riding a bike with two other people, and they stopped in a park and sat on a picnic table to rest. A huge tree branch fell on top of them and they died on scene. Yes, the family sued the city and won. The other was in their home, and a tree fell through the house. Killed instantly."

16. "I grew up in logging country; my uncles and grandpa are loggers. One of my uncles was out logging, and there was a new guy, about 20 years old. A log came crashing down in the opposite direction it should have. It impaled the new guy against the tree. He was alive only because the tree was keeping him alive, and my uncle stayed with him until firefighters could get to him. They said as soon as they removed the tree, he would bleed out and die. So my uncle stayed with him and kept reassuring him he’d be okay (though everyone knew he wouldn’t). He died as soon as the tree was removed. Fucked my uncle up. He never went back into the woods to log again."

17. "We had a guy in the Marines who was doing some mechanical work on a five-ton truck when the truck next to him backed up, squishing him between the two trucks."

18. "Around two weeks before high school graduation, a guy in my class was working on his car at home. It was jacked up, and he was under it. The car fell directly on his head, killing him instantly."

19. "Kids in the back of a pickup truck going down a city street. One of the kids stuck his head over the side to talk to one of the guys in the front, and his head hit a telephone pole. Killed him instantly. Too gruesome to go into detail…"

20. "My coworker was cleaning under a lawnmower where her boss was supposed to be at the time. The brace failed and fell on top of her. She was beside a roadway, but at a slant, so nobody saw her. She was there for four hours till her stepdad went looking for her and found her under the mower."

21. "My Dad was riding his bike with a bag hanging off the handle. The bag caught in the spokes of the wheel, and he flipped over the handlebars. His spleen burst on impact, and he almost bled out on the side of the road. He got to the hospital via life-flight in a helicopter. Even after being given several liters of blood, his blood pressure would not stay up. I ended up having to tell the trauma doctors it was okay to stop life-saving measures after hours of them working on him. Dad had alcoholism with cirrhosis, so everything they did to try to save him failed."

Lastly:

22. "When I was in elementary school, my friend had a terrible accident. That morning, I felt sick and didn’t go to school. Something just felt terribly wrong. Later that afternoon, my mom received a phone call from the school. Apparently, my friend was on the playground, going down the slide, and only her coat drawstrings got caught at the top. Kids watched in shock as her drawstrings strangled her. There were two playgrounds, and the teacher was watching the other playground when this happened. By the time the ambulance came, it was too late. She was only five years old. Her mom was incredible and got drawstrings banned from all kids' clothing at the school. I still blame myself for not being there that morning to help her."
