About the Project

EuroClio believes that quality history education is essential for building informed, critical, and engaged citizens. Digital cultural heritage offers extraordinary opportunities to bring the past to life in the clas

sroom. However, its educational potential remains largely untapped. As a Young Digital Heritage Professional at EuroClio, you will help change that.

In partnership with Europeana, whose rich collections of digitised cultural heritage are a key resource for developing innovative educational approaches, you will work acros

s resource development, research, community building, and cross-border collaboration. In this way, you will contribute to meaningful work that supports history educators across Europe.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

You will work with an experienced EuroClio Staff member and by a wider community of seasoned history and heritage education professionals. You will contribute to work on tasks that are matched as much as possible to your own interests and strengths and are encouraged to take ownership of the tasks as much as possible. 

During your time at EuroClio you will have the opportunity to work on the

• Mapping educational use cases of digital cultural heritage in history education
• Development and testing of educational impact measurement instruments
• Further development and contextualisation of ‘Bringing History to Life’ resources
• Building partnerships between teacher educators and teacher education institutions
• Collection and dissemination of stories of impact through online events
• Dissemination of educational research findings to practitioners and policymakers
• Building and animating a community of practice for educational reuse
• Supporting place-based learning initiatives using digital cultural heritage
• Creating curated source sets for student-created exhibitions. 
• Impact research on use cases linked to storytelling
• Addressing cross-border teaching challenges and historical patterns
• Local adaptation and translation of educational resources
• Supporting a peer-learning network for educators working in the cultural heritage sector (archives, museums, heritage sites).
• Structured collaboration with European education and heritage networks 

Who are we looking for? 

We welcome candidates with a strong affiliation or interest in history education, digital heritage, or cultural policy, and who demonstrate the following core skills and competencies:

• Accountability: Taking responsibility for and ownership of work-related actions, following through on commitments and decisions made.
• Accuracy: Certain tasks – including financial management, data collection, and resource documentation – require detail-oriented accuracy.
• Adaptability: Quickly adapting to changing or challenging circumstances, responding innovatively, and swiftly adjusting to the different needs of the Secretariat and evolving project tasks.
• Analytical Thinking and Creativity: Contributing to project proposals, impact measurement, and educational resources requires analytical rigour and creative thinking, including the ability to understand local contexts, conduct needs assessments, and evaluate project impact.
• Independence: While teamwork is central to EuroClio’s culture, the Young Professional is expected to work and successfully complete tasks independently with minimal supervision.
• Intercultural Communication and Empathy: Valuing and recognising diversity and communicating respectfully with colleagues and partners from any cultural, ethnic, or religious background at all times.
• Teamwork: A great deal of EuroClio’s work is carried out in teams involving diverse people both inside and outside the Secretariat. Accountability, solid communication, and adaptability are essential.
• Fluency in English: Strong written and spoken English is required. Additional language skills are a significant asset given the multilingual scope of the project.
• Digital Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with content management systems, data tools, or design tools such as Canva is a plus.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the EuroClio Young Professional Programme, candidates must meet the following requirements at the start of the programme:

• Hold EU/EEA citizenship (or an EU Residence Permit);
• Hold a Master’s Degree in a relevant field of studies, such as Education, History, Cultural Heritage, Political Science, International Relations, Development Studies, Management, or any other related field;
• Be under the age of 30 on the start date of the programme.

What Does EuroClio Offer?

EuroClio offers a diverse and dynamic work environment at its Secretariat in The Hague, the Netherlands. As a Young Professional, you will work alongside a passionate and internationally connected network of history educators and heritage professionals. You may also join Staff on work trips related to project activities.

You will receive an in-house training programme tailored to your professional development needs and interests, and you will be assigned a supervisor who will track your progress and ensure the programme meets your expectations and career goals.

EuroClio offers a workspace at the office in The Hague, with access to a work laptop if needed. Young Professionals will receive a fee of 747 EUR per month and up to 100 EUR in reimbursement of local travel expenses (home–office commute) per month.

The position will last up to 12 months, from September 1st to August 31st 2027.
