Sanrio revealed that Pompompurin won the Sanrio character ranking poll for 2026 and is the most popular mascot worldwide. A total of 70,647,379 votes were cast. This follows his 2025 win, which led to more merchandise globally for him.

The top ten most popular mascots of the overall, worldwide Sanrio character poll for 2026 are, in order,:

1. Pompompurin
2. Cinnamoroll
3. Pochacco
4. Kuromi
5. Hello Kitty
6. Ahirunopekkle
7. My Melody
8. Tuxedosam
9. Hangyodon
10. Little Twin Stars

This means that the top three winners are all dog characters. Cinnamoroll has been incredibly popular over the years, winning the character poll five consecutive times from 2020 to 2024. This year’s winner, Pompompurin, was also the one to win last year and break Cinnamoroll’s win streak.

Sanrio also published the top ten winners for individual regions for those curious. These polls usually let us see differences in taste between countries. Gudetama and Cogimyun made it into the Top 10 for Taiwan. The United States seems to like more of Sanrio’s older and more classic line-up. Chococat, Usahana, and Keroppi all made it into the Top 10. 

As for Happilinafriends, voters could vote for “new friends” in three different categories. Chokochilla won all three—Collector’s Choice, Always Together, and Favorite Story. Of the Happilinafriends for 2026, Chokochilla has the simplest and most classic “Sanrio”-like design, which might have contributed to its sweep. It resembles a pink-and-cream chinchilla with a strawberry hat and scribbled pink cheeks.
