Man Utd had agreed a deal with Atalanta for midfielder Ederson but the signing is now uncertain amid reports it has been called off.

Manchester United will seek to renegotiate the deal they’ve agreed with Atalanta to get Ederson's signing over the line.

Despite reports that the deal has collapsed, United remain open to signing the 27-year-old, but the deal has become complex after medical tests raised concerns about a knee injury sustained last season.

Further tests were carried out on Ederson last week and United could now try to restructure the deal in their bid to bring the Brazil international to Old Trafford.

A fee of £35million plus a further £3.8million in add-ons had been agreed six weeks ago, with personal terms over a four-year contract also in place. The transfer was slated to go through in early July but Ederson was a late call-up to the Brazil squad for the World Cup.

He underwent part of his medical while in the United States and then had further checks after Brazil were beaten by Norway in the last-16.

While sources in Italy have claimed the deal is off and that Atalanta are ready to offer Ederson a new five-year deal, United haven't ruled out going ahead with the signing.

They have agreed a £50million deal with Chelsea to sign 22-year-old Andrey Santos and have a shortlist of alternatives to Ederson as well, including Wolves' Joao Gomes.

Gomes was set to move to Atletico Madrid after the La Liga side themselves pulled out of a deal for Ederson, but they have signed Morten Hjulmand from Sporting instead.

Gomes is expected to leave Molineux this summer and he remains an option for United should they decide to move on to alternative targets.
