Chelsea plan for Alejandro Garnacho confirmed as Man United set for transfer windfall
Alejandro Garnacho is set to leave Chelsea this summer, less than a year after his move from Man United, new boss Xabi Alonso has confirmed.
United are in line for a financial boost if a deal goes through. United inserted a 10 per cent sell‑on clause in the deal, meaning they stand to profit from his departure.
The 22‑year‑old has has not reported for pre‑season as Chelsea work on an exit behind the scenes. Garnacho, who left United in a £40million switch last year, has interest from Europe and Saudi Arabia.
When asked about the winger's situation on Monday, new Chelsea boss Alonso said: "Well the situation is that we have spoken with the sporting directors. There is an interest for him from other clubs. So let's see how this develops. But hopefully, it finishes in the best possible way for other clubs."
Our colleagues at football.london understand that an agreement is close, with Chelsea hoping to bank around £42m in a permanent transfer.

Ederson latest
According to Sky Sports, Man United could revisit the collapsed move for Ederson later in the summer, with the situation shifting in their favour.
Atalanta are not in a strong negotiating position with Ederson's contract expiring next year. Given he is keen to push on in his career, any talk of an extension is viewed as highly unlikely.
One to keep an eye on.

Manchester United are close to the final piece of the midfield jigsaw - but there is a catch
Manchester United are on track to complete their midfield overhaul after making progress to secure a shock deal for Youri Tielemans.
United are in advanced talks with Aston Villa to sign Tielemans. Villa do not want to lose the Belgian, but he has a release clause of £35million and wants to make the switch to Old Trafford this summer.
Tielemans will follow Andrey Santos through the door. United are set to spend around £85m on the pair, which is smart business given Tottenham signed former Reds' target Mateus Fernandes for the same price.

Jarrod Bowen hint
United are one of the clubs linked with an interest in Jarrod Bowen this summer, following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League.
However, it now looks like the captain is set to stay at the London Stadium, according to the forward's father-in-law and celebrity Hammers' fan Danny Dyer.
Speaking to TalkSPORT, he said:
"He's a very great, loyal man. First and foremost, he is my family, the father of my grandchildren, of course. It's been tough for him."He does deserve Champions League football and whatever decision he makes, or made, I would have supported him."I don't think he's going anywhere, and I think he will rip up the Championship, don't you worry yourself about that."

Joao Gomes impact
Manchester United’s move for Youri Tielemans is likely to affect the future of Wolves star Joao Gomes. The Brazilian has been linked with United for some time and appeared set to leave Molineux this summer.
Atletico Madrid were closing in on a deal to sign Gomes from Wolves following their relegation from the Premier League, but that move has fallen through in recent days.
The La Liga outfit have since chosen to pursue a deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand, meaning that Gomes’ future now remains uncertain.

Wilcox gives Santos verdict
Manchester United director of football Jason Wilcox has explained the reasons why the club chose to sign Andrey Santos.
He told the club website:
Andrey is an outstanding midfielder with excellent technical qualities and the ability to impact the game at both ends of the pitch. He was a key target for us in an important position, so we are delighted that he will join Michael’s squad so early in pre-season.Despite already having extensive experience, leadership abilities and proving his talent at the highest level, Andrey still has enormous potential to develop further, and we cannot wait to see him flourish at Manchester United.

Carrick's pitch to Carrick
It's interesting to read Santos referencing the opportunity to work with Carrick as one of the reasons why he was attracted to United. Carrick was one of the finest midfielders of his generation, and he is pretty hands-on during training sessions, passing on his pearls of wisdom through his coaching. Santos will learn a lot from working under him, and his ceiling isn't close to being reached.

Youri Tielemans' journey
Tielemans is a name who seems to have been around for years, that's because, despite still only being 29, he has been.
He burst onto the scene with Belgian club Anderlecht as a teenager in 2013, before making the move to French side Monaco four years later. He failed to make a big impression with the club and joined Leicester on loan for the second half of the 2019/20 season.
He instantly became a fan favourite, and completed a permanent move the following summer. In his four-and-a-half years with the Foxes, he played 195 times, scoring 28 goals and providing 28 assists, establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
One of the highlights was his stunning goal to help the club win their first ever FA Cup in 2021.
Tielemans was, however, part of the squad that suffered a shock relegation from the Premier League two years later, and left on a free transfer that summer, joining Aston Villa.
He has played 134 times for the Villans, scoring 10 times, including in the Europa League final last season, and providing 25 assists
The 29-year-old has 90 caps for Belgium and wore the captain's armband in the nation's run to the World Cup quarter-finals in North America, though he missed the defeat vs Spain through injury. He scored twice in the 3-2 comeback win vs Senegal at the Round of 16 stage.

Now we are talking...
After flirting with the idea of Tchouameni, it seems United will pull the trigger on Tielemans as their elite midfield replacement for Casemiro. That's a good signing for United, at the right price. Reports have suggested £35m will be enough to bring him in and, if that's the case, the Reds should do everything they can to get that done. He excelled for Belgium at the World Cup and he adds much-needed leadership to that midfield.

Kai Rooney responds to Man United deal
Both Kai Rooney and Jacey Carrick, sons of Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick, have responded to signing scholarship deals with Manchester United.
Rooney made his debut at Old Trafford last season in the FA Youth Cup game vs Derby County. Reacting to the deal, he said:
"It symbolises the start of something hopefully great, and something with lots of memories to come with lots of hard work."
Carrick Junior said:
"This day is very special because I remember the first time when I signed for Man United and it just brings back flashbacks. To put this blazer on is brilliant".

Smart transfer business
Youri Tielemans will be the next through the door at United after striking a deal for Andrey Santos. Fair play to United for swooping after identifying an opportunity due to his release clause. Tielemans has bags of Premier League experience, and the fee is definitely fair. The deal looks even better when you consider Tottenham paid £85m for Mateus Fernandes, the same price United will pay for Santos and Tielemans combined.

United hero set for new job
Manchester United hero Diego Forlan is close to becoming the new Uruguay head coach.
The nation suffered disappointment at this year's World Cup, falling out at the group stage, which led to Marcelo Bielsa stepping down as manager.
The Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) have been searching for a replacement, with president Ignacio Alonso showing his excitement at the potential appointment of Forlan.
He told Teledoce:
"We have the opportunity to incorporate him, in this case, into the Under-20 National Team. Having Diego inside the complex, with the experience he has, having played for the best teams in the world, having been exposed to all kinds of methodologies, having his own, being a national team player and with experience as a First Division coach... I think it was a great opportunity. He's excited"
The Under-20 role will also include an interim period in charge of the senior squad. Alonso added:
"We're hiring a U-20 coach who will manage the senior team's matches. Then, the situation will dictate how the evaluations go"

Ederson truth
United will seek to renegotiate the deal they’ve agreed with Atalanta to get Ederson's signing over the line.
Despite reports that the deal has collapsed, United remain open to signing the 27-year-old, but the deal has become complex after medical tests raised concerns about a knee injury sustained last season.
Further tests were carried out on Ederson last week and United could now try to restructure the deal in their bid to bring the Brazil international to Old Trafford.

Brutal Andrey Santos verdict delivered
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has delivered his verdict on United closing in on a deal for Andrey Santos.
A £50 million fee has been agreed with Chelsea for the signing, with United adding to their midfield options.
However, speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football, Scholes isn't too excited by the potential arrival:
"I don’t think there’s going to be a lot of excitement about it, is there? Put it that way," he said. "Why are Chelsea selling him, a 22-year-old kid? Who else is around now, though, who they can get? [Sandro] Tonali has gone [to Tottenham]."
He added:
"Ultimately, with Manchester United especially, it will be the fellas at the top of the club who would be deciding [targets]."And I think they might see some value in this player [Andrey Santos] as a sellable [asset]. But Manchester United buying players as a sell-on value? We need players for now."We’ve got the Champions League next year, we’ve got three games a week. It’s going to be awful without these players."

How much United could bank from Greenwood sale
As mentioned, if Greenwood is to be sold by Marseille this week, it will be a significant sum that United shall bank. Fenerbahce and Atletico have both reportedly agreed deals with the Ligue 1 club and should he move to the Saudi Pro League, United should bank a similar figure. United would receive €14million (£11.9m) if Greenwood opts to move to Turkey, or €15.7million (£13.3m) if he returns to Madrid. That'll be a nice boost for the Reds' budget.

Michael Carrick has midfield plan
Michael Carrick is planning on playing Mason Mount in a deeper role next season in a bid to ease the midfield problems, according to the Sun.

The report says that Mount is set to start United's pre-season schedule in the role, with Mainoo, who is away with England at the World Cup, not returning until the training camp in Dublin on August 9.

Double cash boost
Manchester United look set to benefit from other activity in the transfer window, with both Alejandro Garnacho and Mason Greenwood on the verge of moving clubs.
Garnacho left Old Trafford last summer, joining Chelsea in a £40 million deal, but has struggled to have an impact at Stamford Bridge. Various reports suggest that the Blues are willing to let him go for around £42.5 million.
As part of the deal, United inserted a 10% sell-on clause - should Chelsea get the fee that they want, then United will earn £4.2m from the deal.
Greenwood left United in the summer of 2024, with United including a sell-on clause of between 40 and 50%. The forward now looks set to join Fenerbache for around £34 million, plus add-ons.
United will therefore get a seven-figure sum from that sale.

Opinion: United still haven't replaced one Casemiro trait
How do you replace a five-time Champions League winner with nearly 500 appearances for Real Madrid and Manchester United and 91 caps for Brazil? For United, the answer is you don't replace him directly.
Casemiro has now formally left Old Trafford after his contract expired at the end of June, and the process of rebuilding the midfield has begun. His countryman Andrey Santos is set to sign for £50million, although a £38.3million deal for Ederson hangs in the balance.
Santos is just 22 and has limited senior experience, even if he has six caps for Brazil. Ederson's move from Atalanta could collapse over concerns around a knee injury, but although he is 27, his experience only amounts to playing for a top-six club in Serie A.
