Second water tragedy at Lincoln's Swanholme Lakes in seven weeks as teenager dies following rescue attempt

A 16-year-old boy who got into difficulty at Swanholme Lakes has died, Lincolnshire Police has confirmed.

Officers were alerted at around 5pm following reports that the boy had encountered trouble in the water on Thursday, 9 July.

The boy was pulled from the water and rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8.50pm, reports Lincolnshire Live.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: "Our officers, along with Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, were deployed and recovered the boy from the water.

"He was treated at the scene by colleagues from East Midlands Ambulance Service and initially responded to treatment."

"Sadly, despite the efforts of emergency services and hospital staff, he died at 8.50pm. His parents were with him at the hospital."

A file will be passed to the coroner. The tragedy comes just weeks after 15-year-old Declan Sawyer lost his life after getting into difficulty in the water on 24 May.

Authorities have issued renewed appeals for people to stay out of open water - with the City of Lincoln Council poised to approve a trial scheme next week for wardens to patrol the city's open spaces and lakes.
