A beer permit has been approved for the new restaurant, Camila, at 309 E. Main Street. The restaurant is an upscale modern European Bistro with a seasonal menu. It serves craft cocktails, curated wines and beer to accompany the food. Hours are from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and it is open until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. On Sundays, brunch is from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and dinner from 5-10 p.m. and reservations can be made. The restaurant also can be reserved for special private occasions.

La Catrina Mexican Food at 5507 Highway 153 is a food truck with a space that is next door where customers can eat. Beer is not allowed to be sold from the mobile food trucks in Chattanooga, but this business was given a license to sell beer from the brick-and-mortar space that is next door.

Two Mapco convenience stores were approved for selling carry-out beer. One is located at 6120 Highway 58 and the other is at 6200 Lee Highway. New beer permits were needed for these stores due to an ownership change.

Two temporary beer permit applications were approved at the beer board meeting for two special events. The “Bessie Smith’s Big 9 Music Fest,” organized by the Bessie Smith Cultural Center, 200 E. M.L. King Blvd. will take place on Saturday, June 20, from 3-10:30 p.m. There will be live local music, food trucks and vendors. It is a free, one-day event that is part of the Juneteenth celebration that begins the day before.

The Twilight Firefly Market will be held for the second year at the Chattanooga Choo Choo, 20 Choo Choo Avenue. It is on Saturday from 5-10 p.m. Live entertainment and a beer bar will be available at this free event. There will also be a juried art show and local artisans selling their handcrafted goods such as jewelry.

Beer permits for four restaurants owned by Gabriel Sosa and Jesus Serrano have been on hold since November due to a citizenship issue that has now been cleared up. However violations of operating without a beer permit from the city for three of those businesses are still pending and are scheduled to be  heard at the next beer board meeting on June 18. Despite the pending violations, the board approved the applications to receive beer permits for Cabana’s 1800 Rossville Ave., Chi-Chis Charred Chicken, 811 Market Street and Mexiville Mexican Restaurant, 809 Market St. And a new restaurant with the same owners, 423 Taco, 401Market St., was also  given a beer license.

The charge against Champy’s Chicken, 526 E. M.L. King Blvd, of selling beer without a permit from Chattanooga has been settled. Hearing Officer Johnika Everhart recommended dismissing the violation and the beer board members sustained the recommendation.

The violation against Dollar General, 728 Market St. has also been resolved. The business sold alcohol to a minor. A $5,000 fine from the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission was paid within 48 hours of the incident. The recommendation of the beer board hearing officer Kiesha Cheek for a five-day suspension of the beer license, beginning June 1, was sustained with an additional penalty of a $500 fine added.
