Sara Cox has admitted that 'everything is hurting' after completing day three her gruelling 135-mile Children In Need marathon challenge.

The expedition is Radio 2's longest-ever BBC Children In Need Challenge and is set to take five days.

And as of day three, broadcaster and author Sara has so far raised a whopping £1.4million.

However the gruelling challenge is taking its toll, with Sara admitting it had been the 'toughest morning of my life' and shared that her body was in pain.

Speaking to Paddy McGuinness about how she was feeling, Sara said: 'There's a bit of blue sky which is a lovely welcome for sure, and the sun is trying to break through the misty white cloud - and look I'm going to curse it now but touch wood it's dry - but it's probably been one of the toughest mornings of my life if I'm honest, just everything's hurting.

'I mean I'm used to Wednesday being a hump day but this is ridiculous, it's hump after hump after hump to get over today.'

She added: 'But you know, people at the side of the road, people here, I mean they're amazing but it's just my calves are so tight, my knees are killing me and I just feel like my left leg isn't doing what I'm asking it to do, and it's just tough.

'I'm trying to just keep digging, it's tough.'

Paddy also revealed the astonishing total raised so far to Sara on Radio 2 on Wednesday, to which she replied: 'Oh wow, £1,411,021! Oh wow. Gosh, that is amazing. Thank you so much everyone, that's incredible.

'That is mind blowing... I mean that amount already, just absolutely incredible.

'Thank you so much if you've donated. Thanks Radio 2 listeners - best in the world.'

Fellow Boltonian Peter Kay sent Sara a supportive message, saying: 'Hello Sara, it's Peter. This…this what you are doing is a massive challenge. Huge. I thought Paddy and Vernon had it hard but you are taking it to the next level.

'What's next? Scott Mills skipping up the M1. Your poor little feet. Listen, whenever you are up against it, when you feel like you can't go on and the tops of your legs are chafing just think of all those children in need.

'Think about how much it will mean to them. We all know it's a very good cause. Saying that, all that money they are raising they still never fixed Pudsey's eye.'

The challenge kicked off on Monday with Sara surrounded by locals as well as a more unique bunch of supporters.

Sara was overcome with emotion after discovering her gruelling Children In Need challenge raised £439,225 in one day on Tuesday.

At the starting line, the star, 50, was encouraged by a local bagpiper while she was then met with Alpacas when she reached Northumberland.

On Tuesday, BBC Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay informed Sara she had raised an incredible £439,225.

She said: 'Wow! Oh my god, thank you so much. That's incredible...the Radio 2 audience, as ever, are coming for me like a storm, she says as she walks through an actual storm.

'Yay! We've raised some serious cash - you guys are amazing, thanks so much for donating, keep going!'

Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill has spoken to Vernon Kay on Radio 2 about what it takes for big athletic feats like Sara's challenge. 'A lot of it is physical. But actually the mental side is the most important side. For me, it was something we focused on a lot.

Paddy also revealed the astonishing total raised so far to Sara on Radio 2 on Wednesday, to which she replied: 'Oh wow, £1,411,021!'

Sara spoke to Scott Mills on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show live from the start line: 'I'm feeling good'

'How do you handle the training sessions. How do you put your mind to a place where it needs to be when you're really struggling. And feeling tired and fatigued. Sara's gonna be feeling that and is going to need to find a good mindset.

'To be successful, you have to have a strong mentality. She's gonna be feeling this, it's such a huge challenge. You need to think about the bigger picture, this incredible challenge, and the difference it's going to make.'

Just a few hours earlier on The Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Scott Mills told Sara she had raised over £331,000 in a single day.

A stunned Sara said: 'Oh my gosh, oh wow, that's amazing! Oh gosh, incredible. Thank you so much. Every penny is going to go towards changing and saving lives.

'Thank you. You're making lives so much easier for so many kids and their parents - for the whole families.'
