Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding at Madison Square Garden on July 3 has given us plenty to talk about. But one of the most intriguing details to emerge from the event is that the nuptials were officiated by none other than Adam Sandler.
Last year, Travis appeared in Adam's movie, Happy Gilmore 2, and prior to the film's release in July 2025, Travis said the actor is "every bit as cool off the screen as he is on the screen." Similarly, Adam has gushed over Travis, saying that he's "such a gentle, nice guy, and funny as hell."
Of course, there's a lot of love between Adam and Taylor, too. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight in July 2025, the Happy Gilmore star described Taylor as "incredible" and praised her for always being "so damn nice" to his family — namely, his daughters, Sunny and Sadie. "My kids have met Taylor a bunch of times over the years, and she’s ridiculously nice to them and warm," he said at the time.
And now, amid all the speculation about Adam's special involvement in the wedding, a source has spoken to People about how it all came together.
According to an insider, Adam "said yes right away" when Taylor and Travis asked him to officiate. "He was incredibly honored to be part of such a special day," the source said, going on to call him the "perfect person" for the job, due to the fact that he's "been happily married for so many years" to his wife, Jackie Sandler. (Twenty-three years, to be exact.)
We've heard rumors about what Adam supposedly said at the wedding, including a claim from Andy Reid that his main piece of advice to the newlyweds was to "keep kissing." "In a simple, hysterical way, he was phenomenal," the Kansas City Chiefs head coach reportedly told the Deseret News. "He’s crazy, but he did a great job in getting them married with a lot of humor."
With this in mind, the source told People that Adam's main goal was to keep his words heartfelt and authentic, saying: "He wasn’t trying to find the perfect words or make it this big production. He just wanted to speak from the heart and pass along a little wisdom that he’s gained from his own happy marriage."
I wish I could have been a fly on the wall during the moment that this idea was first pitched during the wedding planning process. But, by the sounds of it, it worked out pretty magically. Good job, Adam!
