Mario Kart Tour is officially being shuttered by Nintendo later this summer. As of September 29th, the mobile game will end its run on iOS and Android.

“Service for the Mario Kart Tour game for smart devices will come to an end as of 11:00 p.m. Pacific on September 29,” Nintendo wrote. “We sincerely thank the many players who have loved and supported the game since service began so long ago.”

Mario Kart Tour first launched on iOS and Android in September 2019. Developed at a time when Nintendo was more heavily invested in the mobile space, Mario Kart Tour brought over a truncated version of the core game experience, using gacha mechanics to encourage in-app spending.

Service for the Mario Kart Tour game ends on Sept. 29 at 11:00 p.m. PT / Sept. 30 at 8:00 a.m. CEST. Thank you for your support throughout the years. For info on how rubies and the Mario Kart Tour Gold Pass will be handled moving forward, see in-game notifications or FAQ below.

In an FAQ included with the news, Nintendo confirms that an offline version of Mario Kart Tour “is not scheduled for release.” This means that on September 29th, all progress and in-game unlocks will be wiped completely. When the servers are turned off for the game, Mario Kart Tour will effectively become unplayable.

Nintendo has already suspended the ability to purchase Ruby, the game’s currency. From now until September 29th, the Mario Kart Tour Gold Pass subscription perks are available at no cost.

Out of Nintendo’s aggressive push into mobile, only Super Mario Run, Pikmin Bloom, and Fire Emblem Heroes remain. The trio of games continue to be fairly lucrative for Nintendo with in-game purchases available. Fire Emblem Heroes, for instance, has been Nintendo’s most financially successful mobile game, earning over $1.2 billion in lifetime player spending.
