After his previous two ReMixes from the game, OceansAndrew is back to complete his Genshin Impact trilogy with percussive assistance from drummer Thomas Colegrove.

Cards on the table, I know absolutely nothing about Genshin Impact other than it's a gacha game that (presumably) makes a frightening amount of money. Listening to the original tracks arranged here, this is some wonderfully composed music by Yu-Peng Chen, halfway between classic JRPG-style town music and a soaring Disney score, with some more traditional instrumentation sprinkled in. "Lantern Rite" in particular feels like an instrumental version of an anthemic animated movie feature song. My apologies, Genshin Impact, I wasn't familiar with your game... (ba dum tshh)

"I continue the journey around the Genshin Impact world of Teyvat, but I've managed to use the gacha to pull a 5-star drummer to add to my team!"

I'm assuming this is a hilarious joke that's gone over my head, but a 5-star drummer we certainly have here in Thomas Colegrove, who provided a great rhythmic foundation. Having some well-arranged and -performed live drums in a ReMix is always a treat, so it's a warm welcome back for Thomas to the esteemed ReMixer crew.

"This one is two themes associated with the Geo nation, which are some of my favorite themes in the whole (massive) OST. There have been several great official and non-official arrangements of these two themes together, but I wanted to take an approach that was slightly different. The themes here almost always make an appearance around the Chinese New Year, and the in-game Lantern Rite festival.

Musically, the focus is on the 3 (sometimes 4) lead guitar harmonies, which gave a sort of Brian May vibe to it, and, of course, Tom's drumming. This one took a lot longer than normal because I had to learn 4x the guitar parts, but I am happy with how it ended up."

And happy with it he should well be. Starting with some delicate piano and strings before dropping into a familiar orchestral rock style, I can definitely feel some influence from Queen about the execution as we have some complex arrangement going on at times, without getting too fiddly and prog-y. It's a fine arrangement line I know a thing or two about (usually from unapologetically crossing it), but Andrew manages to retain the song-like feeling while still squeezing in some playful arrangement ideas like the build up and drop out at 1:05. There's also some slick work on the guitar from 1:55 also caught my ear (someone's been practicing their arpeggios) without it stealing the show or getting distracting.

This easily strolled through The Department of Judgement with the quality of the arrangement shining through as pixelseph shares:

"What a lovely arrangement! [...] Great swagger on the 6/8 feel changes, especially when the bass and left-hand on the keys lean into the fills. Mix feels balanced and natural for the style - getting 4 guitars to not step on each other OR the keys is a feat in-and-of itself!"

Great stuff, and I suspect this may not be the last we've heard of OA and his gacha goodness.
