Karoline Leavitt’s scramble to defend ‘lazy’ attack on youth triggers MAGA backlash

Дата публикации: 05-07-2026 19:17:57

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt scrambled Sunday to defend her recent comments attacking young Americans for being “raised with silver spoons in their mouths” and “getting everything handed to them,” but in doing so, only exacerbated MAGA’s outrage.Speaking with Fox News’ Jesse Watters last week, Leavitt claimed that young Americans were suffering from "laziness" and characterized them as entitled. The remarks sparked outrage among critics across the political spectrum, many of whom noted Leavitt’s ascent to wealth as being connected to her marriage to millionaire real estate developer Nicholas Riccio, 32 years her senior. On Sunday, Leavitt lashed out at critics as “bad faith actors” in a 404-word social media post and claimed her remarks were taken “out of context.” Her response did not go over well with right-wing critics.“No one is reading all that. And you didn't write it,” wrote A.J. Delgado, a former senior adviser to President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, in a social media post on X.Kyle Seraphin, a conservative podcaster and former FBI agent, quipped in response, “If you are explaining, you are losing.”Leavitt’s remarks even caught criticism from a self-proclaimed “pro-white nationalist” writer, who referred to Leavitt as “some boomer’s trophy wife.”Leavitt also received scrutiny from other figures in the conservative media space.“Karoline Leavitt thinks Gen Z just needs to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and marry a 60-year-old New Hampshire real estate developer/resort landlord who you meet during your failed congressional run,” wrote journalist Patrick Howley in a social media post on X to his more than 96,000 followers. “Stop whining. Start Dining!”No one is reading all that. And you didn't write it.— A.J. Delgado (@AJDelgado13) July 5, 2026

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt scrambled Sunday to defend her recent comments attacking young Americans for being “raised with silver spoons in their mouths” and “getting everything handed to them,” but in doing so, only exacerbated MAGA’s outrage.

Speaking with Fox News’ Jesse Watters last week, Leavitt claimed that young Americans were suffering from "laziness" and characterized them as entitled. The remarks sparked outrage among critics across the political spectrum, many of whom noted Leavitt’s ascent to wealth as being connected to her marriage to millionaire real estate developer Nicholas Riccio, 32 years her senior.

On Sunday, Leavitt lashed out at critics as “bad faith actors” in a 404-word social media post and claimed her remarks were taken “out of context.” Her response did not go over well with right-wing critics.

“No one is reading all that. And you didn't write it,” wrote A.J. Delgado, a former senior adviser to President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, in a social media post on X.

Kyle Seraphin, a conservative podcaster and former FBI agent, quipped in response, “If you are explaining, you are losing.”

Leavitt’s remarks even caught criticism from a self-proclaimed “pro-white nationalist” writer, who referred to Leavitt as “some boomer’s trophy wife.”

Leavitt also received scrutiny from other figures in the conservative media space.

“Karoline Leavitt thinks Gen Z just needs to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and marry a 60-year-old New Hampshire real estate developer/resort landlord who you meet during your failed congressional run,” wrote journalist Patrick Howley in a social media post on X to his more than 96,000 followers. “Stop whining. Start Dining!”
