Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that left a man dead and another man injured as thousands of students and visitors gathered following Delaware State University’s homecoming events.
The shooting happened around 9:19 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, in the parking lot of the Dover Commons shopping center along the 1200 block of North DuPont Highway in Dover.
Police identified the man killed as 22-year-old Nasir Cox of Philadelphia. A 21-year-old man was also injured in the shooting.
According to Dover police, officers were already in the area before the gunfire erupted as crowds of “thousands of students and visitors attending Delaware State University’s homecoming events” gathered at nearby shopping centers and other locations.
First suspect arrested days after deadly shooting
During the investigation, detectives identified a 22-year-old Dover man as one of the suspected shooters and obtained warrants for his arrest and a search of his home.
On Oct. 16, members of the Dover Police Department, assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service and Delaware State Police, went to a home on the 500 block of Crawford Avenue around 1:10 p.m.
Police said the suspect came out of the residence after officers announced their presence and was taken into custody without incident. Inside the home, police found a 9 mm handgun, ammunition and clothing and accessories that matched items worn during the shooting.
Second suspect captured in Maryland
Detectives also identified an 18-year-old man as the second suspected shooter and obtained a warrant for his arrest. It was believed at the time he was hiding in Sussex County, Delaware or eastern Maryland.
On Oct. 21, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force in Salisbury tracked down the second suspect at a home in Snow Hill, Maryland and he was taken into custody.
Police said both suspects are facing the following charges, first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, three counts of possession of a firearm, four counts first-degree reckless endangering and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
