This article includes spoilers for You Can See Everything, a new documentary about Elizabeth Holmes now playing theatrically in the US.

Did it seem strange to you that Elizabeth Holmes’s X account remained so active after she reported to prison in 2023? You are not alone, and You Can See Everything, a new documentary about the businesswoman that was directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, may offer some reasons for the weirdness of her social media in the past few years.

As stated in the film, Holmes’s fiancé, Billy Evans, has been helping man her X account, which has opined on issues ranging from the assassination of Charlie Kirk to whether or not she is a fan of Taylor Swift. Evans claims in the documentary that he is merely posting messages sent to him by Holmes from prison, where she still has email access.

But might he be putting words in her mouth and writing her posts for her? The film repeatedly raises that possibility, suggesting that Holmes may have lost control of her image while she remains incarcerated. (Her X posts are accompanied by her initials when she has actually written them, one post from September noted. “Posts without that signature are from the team managing this account,” that post continued.)

These questions have led many to revisit her X account, which includes a bizarre art connection in the form of her background: an image of Norman Rockwell‘s 1943 painting Freedom of Speech, in which a man stands up and prepares to speak before a crowd. Rockwell made the painting in response to Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1941 State of the Union address, wherein he called the right to freedom of speech an essential one. The painting is these days best known as a meme image used alongside an unpopular opinion.

Except that in Holmes’s version, Holmes herself stands in place of the man, wearing her signature black turtleneck. Roosevelt’s painting looks like it has been edited digitally, perhaps using an AI generator. In light of You Can See Everything, it’s an unsettling image: Holmes is unable to entirely speak for herself, even though her X account suggests otherwise.

“There is never a perfect moment worth waiting for,” reads one X from the account that featured the full version of the Rockwell-inspired image. “You have to take every step, every action you can – especially in the worst of circumstances – to fight for every fraction of an inch forward.”

It’s not the only art-related post her account has made. There’s also one featuring Michelangelo‘s Pietà, along with a note that a book about the artist by Otto Mower.

“Last night I read an overview of Michaelangelo’s life by Otto Mower, a teacher who has very special meaning in our lives,” that post from September 2025 notes, misspelling the artist’s name. “He writes ‘for Michaelangelo, God was perfection. He felt that whoever strives for perfection is striving for the divine.’ Strive for the divine.”

That post notably does not have Holmes’s initials appended to it.

Neither does a post from April of this year that featured an image of Rembrandt’s 1633 painting The Storm on the Sea of Galilee, which was stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum in 1990 and has yet to be recovered. “Today is a storm on all the fronts, and so I rise through every wave,” the post says.
