Government personnel from 16 agencies received training in using generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and building AI applications through a workshop organized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The four-day “Generative AI for Government” workshop covered how the technology works, how to write clear instructions for AI tools, and how to use them responsibly. Participants explored ways to apply these skills to government tasks and public services.
DICT said the training aimed to help agencies use generative AI responsibly in their organizations. The program combined lessons with demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and group challenges to give participants practical experience.
GenAI can create text and other content based on a user’s instructions. The workshop included prompt engineering, which involves writing instructions that help an AI tool produce more useful answers, along with basic and advanced AI concepts.
Participants also learned about AI application development, moving beyond using existing tools to exploring how to build applications for government work. The sessions examined how the technology could help agencies simplify tasks and improve daily operations.
DICT conducted the workshop through its Office for Strategic Initiatives and Industry and Competency Development (OSIICD). Sessions took place on Sept. 22, 29, and 30, and Oct. 1, 2026.
