NEW YORK — Cat-centric brand Smalls announced that nine of its human-grade gently cooked cat food recipes have earned recognition from Clean Label Project® following third-party testing of its finished products.

Clean Label Project® is a nonprofit committed to reducing environmental and industrial contaminants in food and consumer products, establishing certification standards against which products are evaluated. Clean Label Project evaluates finished products through independent third-party laboratory testing, testing for contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, glyphosate, phthalates and bisphenol.

Eight Smalls fresh gently cooked recipes earned the Clean Label Project Purity Award, including Smooth Bird Chicken Recipe; Ground Bird Chicken Recipe; Ground Other Bird Turkey Recipe; Smooth Other Bird Turkey Recipe; Smooth Pig Pork Recipe; Smooth Bird & Fish Dish Chicken & Salmon Recipe; Ground Cow Beef Recipe; and Smooth Cow Beef Recipe. The brand’s Smooth Fish Recipe earned Clean Label Project Certification. Smalls is one of just three brands to receive Clean Label Project Certification, alongside BIXBI and Freshpet.

“Cat parents trust us with what they put in their cats’ bowls every day, and we take that responsibility incredibly seriously,” said Nate Kredich, chief operating officer of Smalls. “Having eight of our fresh recipes earn the Clean Label Project Purity Award is meaningful because it provides independent validation across such a broad portion of our portfolio. It also reinforces the importance of our high product standards as well as our commitment to giving cat parents greater transparency and confidence in the food they serve.”

Clean Label Project certification differs from other evaluations because it is testing the finished products as they are sold to consumers, not on ingredient lists or manufacturing processes.

“Having eight recipes earn the Clean Label Project Purity Award is a meaningful achievement and speaks to the consistency Smalls has demonstrated across its fresh food portfolio,” said Molly Hamilton, executive director at Clean Label Project. “When recognition extends across multiple recipes, proteins and textures, it gives consumers an additional level of confidence in a brand’s commitment to product purity beyond a single product. We’re pleased to recognize Smalls for its continued commitment to providing cat parents with greater transparency into the products they feed their pets.”

To provide consumers with a visual indicator of its independently tested products, Smalls can now display the Clean Label Project Certified and Purity Award seals on its products.
