Judge blocks vote on Westlake data center amid lawsuit from Keller residents

Дата публикации: 17-08-2026 16:05:43

A judge has blocked a proposed data center near the Westlake-Keller border as residents challenge the development in court.
The data center would be built in Westlake near the Denton-Tarrant county line, where the town borders Keller.
Keller residents filed a lawsuit seeking to stop the project, saying the proposed building would be only about 500 feet from their property.
The ruling came as Westlake city leaders were meeting Monday to consider a development agreement. A development agreement does not establish whether a data center should be on the land. Rather, a development agreement would ensure proper installation and development of a data center.
Town Manager Wade Carroll, during a presentation, said the developers agreement must comply with Governor Greg Abbott’s directive concerning data centers.
A Tarrant County judge is expected to take up the matter next week.
The city of Keller issued the following statement after the judge’s decision on Monday.
“Through the most diplomatic means possible, we made very reasonable requests in our resolution opposing Westlake’s data center. To date, we have had no meaningful response from the Town of Westlake. Now the courts have intervened to temporarily halt any further action related to Westlake’s proposed data center. We will continue to stand alongside our residents in seeking answers and pursuing meaningful protections for the community. The City of Keller will continue to review its options as Westlake’s proposed data center works its way through the court’s process.”
During Monday’s meeting, Westlake Mayor Kim Greaves opened with a statement pushing back against claims that Keller was blindsided.
“Hillwood met with Westlake and Keller leadership on December 10, 2024, and discussed the details on this project,” said Greaves.
