Can’t we all just play by the rules and enjoy a very special Corvette for what it is?
Apparently not.
Bring a Trailer has stopped another Corvette auction, this time pulling the plug on a 2026 Corvette ZR1X 3LZ Stars & Steel Limited Edition after discovering that an account associated with the seller had participated in the bidding.
The auction was withdrawn Oct. 5 after attracting 41 comments — many of them initially focused on the wisdom of selling such a rare Corvette so soon after buying it and the warranty consequences for its next owner.

But those concerns quickly took a back seat when BaT announced why the auction was being shut down.
“Upon further review of the seller’s information, it has come to light that an account associated with the seller was used to bid and participate in this auction,” BaT posted.
The auction site reminded users that sellers are prohibited from bidding on their own vehicles or having others do so on their behalf.
“The integrity of our marketplace is more important than allowing this auction to close,” BaT said, adding that all accounts involved had been restricted.
That’s a disappointing ending for an auction involving one of the most remarkable Corvettes Chevrolet has ever produced.

The black ZR1X is No. 146 of just 250 Stars & Steel Limited Edition Corvettes produced to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States.
And it isn’t exactly lacking for performance.
Its twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter LT7 V8 powers the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, while an electric motor drives the front wheels. Together, they produce a factory-rated 1,250 horsepower and 973 lb-ft of torque.
The car is also loaded with goodies, including the ZR1X Carbon Fiber Aero Package, carbon-fiber splitter and rocker panels, ZTK performance suspension, carbon-ceramic brakes, front-axle lift and staggered 20- and 21-inch forged wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Inside are Competition Sport bucket seats, Adrenaline Red Napa leather, perforated microfiber inserts and plenty of carbon fiber.
The original window sticker listed a total price of $256,015, and the Corvette had traveled only 156 miles since the seller acquired it new in June.
That quick turnaround had already generated plenty of discussion because General Motors says reselling the car within 12 months of its original June 24 purchase will void the vehicle’s warranty for future owners.
The seller, who posts as “nardolini,” defended his decision to sell and said the warranty situation had been fully disclosed.
“Nobody is being ‘screwed’ here,” he wrote before the auction was halted. “I’ve personally paid way over market for cars I really wanted, and I never once felt the seller was screwing me. I knew exactly what I was buying, made my own decision, paid the price, and drove away with a smile.”

He described himself as a private collector whose collection changes over time.
“Sometimes you buy high, and sell low, sometimes you sell high, and sometimes you simply buy something because you love it,” he wrote.
Earlier, the seller had encouraged commenters to put the debate aside and appreciate the ZR1X.
“I hope we can enjoy this auction for what this car is as an amazing and extremely rare 1-of-250” edition, he wrote.
He called the Corvette an “incredible experience behind the wheel,” adding that its rear view was “totally badass.”

Some onlookers agreed.
“That car looks like it could get you a speeding ticket while parked,” commenter LuvNiceRidz wrote. “It just looks fast, but the crazy thing is it’s even faster than it looks somehow! A true engineering marvel.”
Another commenter, badcad, offered an even shorter assessment of the 1,250-horsepower Corvette’s potential once its break-in period is complete:
“0-JAIL in less than 2 seconds!”
Not everyone was amused by what eventually happened with the auction.
“Why would any seller with what’s arguably the hottest sportscar on the market do this?” JHBBII asked after BaT’s announcement. “Makes no sense whatsoever … no sense at all.”
Tommy_gunz had a one-word explanation: “greed.”

Others applauded BaT for intervening.
“Nice job and thank you for the transparency,” 2003pilot wrote.
Ironically, before the auction was stopped, the seller had responded to criticism about the car’s low mileage and whether it had been abused during its factory-programmed break-in period.
He said the Corvette had never been tracked or abused and that its 156 miles consisted primarily of the drive home and a short trip along the coast.
“I’m a private collector and take very good care of my cars,” he wrote. “I’m selling because I’ve decided to make some changes in my collection, nothing more.”

Whether the Stars & Steel ZR1X eventually returns to the market remains to be seen.
For now, however, one of America’s rarest and most powerful new Corvettes is without a new owner — and another high-profile Corvette auction has ended with BaT deciding that protecting the integrity of the bidding mattered more than seeing just how much money the car could bring.
