As desirable as restomods are, the unfortunate reality is that they’re often priced so high you’d need a winning lottery ticket to land one in your garage.

However, that’s not to say that all efforts are wholly unobtainable.

In fact, I’d argue that one of the coolest new restomod prospects around costs a fraction of what even some donor cars run.

It’s called the Mojito, and it’s a beach car from British coachbuilder Crayford that repurposes a genuine classic Mini bodyshell. In addition to fitting a Webasto-style roof, the outfit ditches the doors and part of the rear quarter panels.

While this obviously limits its appeal to more moderate climates, the resulting build is nevertheless well executed. The Mojito makes for a cohesive design, and the Minis of old prove to be far more complete runabouts than some of the ambitious micromobility solutions currently hitting the market.

To that end, Crayford says it builds each example by hand, equipping the interior with marine-grade upholstery and Flexiteek flooring. In its base spec, the Mojito runs a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 4-speed manual.

As every version is a bespoke project, Crayford also offers a wide range of options.

In addition to styling packs, 6-inch wheels, extended arches and custom covers, the Mojito order page lists several mechanical upgrades, like an EV drivetrain, an automatic transmission and fuel injection.

Though the absence of doors promises a distinct minimalism, the interior can be specced with a few upgrades, too. Along with integrated Apple and Android connectivity, buyers can select two lockable glove boxes, a rear grab rail and shoulder belts, as well as guard ropes.

Crayford’s website prices the Mini Mojito at £35,000 (~$46,000). While that’s a lot relative to, say, something like a Fiat Topolino, it’s considerably less than other restoration projects. Furthermore, it stands to be much more capable than the competition; the donor, while small, is still fundamentally a car.

The website does not mention US availability, but optional left- and right-hand drive configurations suggest import flexibility. However, you may want to inquire early, as production is said to be limited.
