Phil Wickham sat down with HeyUGuys to discuss voicing one of the Bible’s most complex figures — a role that took the Grammy-nominated worship artist from the concert stage into the recording booth for the first time.

Reflecting on the audition process, the emotional weight of bringing David’s failures as well as his triumphs to life, and how playing the role deepened his own faith, Wickham was candid about the responsibility of doing justice to a story he calls unlike anything he’s seen before.

The film stars Phil Wickham, Brandon Engman, Asim Chaudhry, Miri Mesika, Mick Wingert, Will de Renzy-Martin, Lauren Daigle, Mark Jacobson and Brian Stivale, it was written by Phil Cunningham and Brent Dawes and directed by Phil Cunningham and Brent Dawes. Lucy Alfred asks the questions, David is out in cinemas now.

From the songs of his mother’s heart to the whispers of a faithful God, David’s story begins in quiet devotion. When the giant Goliath rises to terrorise a nation, a young shepherd armed with only a sling, a few stones and unshakable faith steps forward, in a journey that tests the limits of loyalty, love and courage.
