Netflix’s bold new interpretation of John Steinbeck’s literary classic spans generations of the Trask family, bringing the novel’s sweeping story of family, love, rivalry and betrayal to a new audience. Drawing on the biblical story of Cain and Abel, the saga unfolds across decades as its characters wrestle with questions of identity, inheritance and loyalty, and with the eternal battle between good and evil, examining the complicated bonds between fathers and sons, brothers and lovers. At its centre is Cathy Ames, one of literature’s most compelling antiheroes, whose ambition, intelligence and ruthlessness make her an unforgettable and destructive force within the Trask family story.
