The post Sharon Horgan, Aran Murphy and Sharlene Whyte on new comedy series Youth, and what it’s really like picking up burrata with your hands appeared first on HeyUGuys.
Youth is the latest series from the wonderful mind of Sharon Horgan, where she plays a 50 year old single mother on the look for new love. To mark the occasion we had the pleasure in speaking to the woman herself, as well as Aran Murphy (yes, son of Cillian – can you tell?), who plays her son Ruari, and Sharlene Whyte, who plays her colleague Sam.
Horgan talks about the deeply personal roots of the show, admitting that putting something this vulnerable into the world comes with real risk. The creator, writer and star opened up on the autobiographical material she folded into the show, why she refuses to let a scene tip into sentimentality, and the surprisingly practical reason she started writing some of it down in the first place — “it would have stayed trapped in my brain.”
Murphy speaks about the joy in being handed the freedom to shape the character himself, while we quiz him about the scene where he has to pick up burrata with him hands – while he also reflects on how closely his own life mirrored his character’s at the time of filming.
Finally, Whyte tells us what it’s really like collaborating with Sharon Horgan, describing a creator who is unafraid to be vulnerable and always chasing the truth of a scene. Whyte also educates us on chia seeds and tells us what it was like sharing a set with Damian Lewis. You watch all three interviews in their entirety below.
