Brad is taking on a really stellar soundtrack (pun intended) here for his Fall & Rise album, and right from the jump he delivers an energy level elevated above Ben Prunty's brilliant score to the game – this is FTL for your car and for your club. pixelseph cuts right to this point in his vote, noting that "this remix takes the original vibe and makes it more active, like it's the battle theme of a location."

I have to note that though most of the judges are (rightly so!) articulating their thoughts on this as a techno piece, I find myself hearing Brad's modern jazz background coming through here. If you take a listen through his "Animal Counterpoint" from Threshold of a Dream before this one, you'll hear a meeting of jazz and minimalism that really lends itself well to this style of production. I'm in good company suggesting as much: judge Hemophiliac caught something of this line of thought as well, noting that the arpeggios give "a John Adams or Philip Glass minimalism vibe, especially with the accents changing up how the filter colors specific notes."

I'm not usually the person to go in-depth on production, but I'll briefly note that this one has the exact timbres it needs to, particularly the bass synth responsible for the arpeggios that give this arrangement the ebb and flow of intensity, guiding you through an array of moods. Brad, who humbly (and for my money, incorrectly! :p) suggests that "this isn't a style I'm strong at, but I felt it came together pretty quickly once I found the right combinations of sounds to use for the bass."

On the whole, this is a smart, intellectual remix in a new style for one of our community's more dynamic musicians, and it makes me happy to hear Brad deliver a combination of formal training meeting informal practice to a result that will have you replaying the piece as often as you revisit the gameplay loops of FTL.
