NEW YORK — Israel’s consul general in New York has invited Mayor Zohran Mamdani to attend a screening of a 47-minute film documenting the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel.

In a letter dated Monday, Ambassador Ofir Akunis invited Mamdani to attend the screening on the third anniversary of the attack, describing the film as an Israel Defense Forces production featuring footage captured by Hamas terrorists on their GoPro cameras.

“Perhaps after watching this film, you will truly understand why the Jewish State is so important and why we will continue to defend ourselves, no matter against whom, and no matter when,” Akunis wrote.
Akunis also criticized Mamdani’s rhetoric toward Israel, writing that it was “even more crucial now” to understand the importance of Israel for the safety and continued existence of the Jewish homeland.

“I hope you will come with an open heart,” Akunis wrote, adding that seeing the footage firsthand could convey the reality of Oct. 7 “in a way that words alone cannot.”
The Oct. 7, 2023, attack killed about 1,200 people in Israel and saw Hamas-led terrorists abduct roughly 250 people to Gaza.
