(JNS) – A new documentary featuring previously unreleased security camera footage from inside Beersheva’s Soroka Medical Center during the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre aired this week on Israel’s Kan News public broadcaster.

The film, “The Shift” (“HaMishmeret”), produced by the Kan 11 TV program “Zman Emet,” gives a unique view of the hospital’s emergency department as 674 wounded patients arrived with injuries from the southern border.

The documentary premiered earlier this week at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who attended with his wife, first lady Michal Herzog, described the film as “a historical document” in a press release.

He praised the hospital’s staff, saying: “The film captures the scale of the trauma and the magnitude of the heroism on October 7th.”

Dr. Ori Galante, who heads Soroka’s internal medicine intensive care unit, is featured in the film. He said it honors “the extraordinary people of Soroka, every single one of them, women and men, each in their own role, from the first cleaner to the last doctor.”

“These are people who put their own lives at risk, left their families at home, and rushed to the hospital that Saturday, driven by a deep inner conviction to help others, regardless of their religion, race, gender, or political beliefs,” Galante said.

“A hospital is not supposed to be able to function under circumstances like these. The reason we succeeded, and what made all the difference, was the people,” he added.
