Highway 104 is closed in both directions west of the Hood Canal Bridge near Port Ludlow in Jefferson County, officials say.

East Jefferson Fire and Rescue in a Facebook post just before 1:30 p.m. Thursday reported a brush fire along the highway at Rocktogo Road below some power lines and another brush fire on the north side of the highway.

By 6:15 p.m., more than 100 firefighters had the west end of the fire 25% contained after it had burned 20 to 25 acres, fire and rescue said, but the blaze was creeping northwest into areas of heavy timber and brush.

No evacuations were ordered and no homes are threatened, fire and rescue said. 

Traffic going west on Highway 104 is being detoured at Paradise Bay Road and eastbound traffic is being detoured at Highway 19, the Washington State Department of Transportation said. 

Highway 104 is expected to be closed for an extended period of time, WSDOT said, advising travelers to avoid the area. 

The status of the fire Friday morning is unknown.
