Roland have just released an update that kits their free iPad-based software synth out with AUv3 support, meaning it can now be run as a plug-in as well as functioning as a standalone application.

Thanks to the AUv3 support, Zenology GX for iPad can now be run directly inside compatible iPad DAWs and hosts, including Logic Pro for iPad and Roland Zenbeats. The AUv3 plug-in provides the complete sound-editing experience, allowing musicians to explore thousands of pre-built sounds or design their own without leaving their preferred production environment. A Pro Edit Mode provides deeper access to the underlying Zenology sound engine, providing more advanced sound designers with in-depth control over the instrument’s parameters. Its streamlined, tab-based interface has been optimised for touch control, making even the most detailed synthesis parameters easily accessible on the iPad.

Alongside the headline feature, the update also implements an array of other improvements and enhancements. Redesigned Chords and Arp Seq interfaces and an improved Step LFO editor make it easier to create and refine sounds, while significant CPU and memory optimisations provide a smoother, more responsive experience across a wider range of iPad models. Additional fixes further improve overall stability and usability. The release also expands the Zenology GX sound library, introducing 10 additional Sound Packs curated by the Roland team, brining the total preset count to 320 synth sounds and 20 drum kits and spanning a wide range of musical styles.

As part of Roland’s ongoing Free Experience programme, Zenology GX for iPad remains available free of charge with its complete feature set unlocked. More information can be found on the Roland website.
