fedDSP’s latest creation has been designed to offer a modern take on the classic chorus effect, combining two independent sections with an array of modulation tools that make it possible to craft everything from subtle stereo movement to complex ‘moving’ effects. 

Each of quadCHO’s two sections are quipped with a set of controls that fedDSP say are deliberately musical rather than technical. In addition to the typical Rate, Depth and Detune parameters, the plug-in presents users with an assortment of more unusual offerings. Weave adds an extra moving texture layer around the chorus, building “stereo detail and satellite-like motion” as it increases, while Space adjusts the sense of distance and separation. Swirl then introduces animated feedback and unstable motion, taking the effect from gentle movement to warped, drifting and more chaotic modulation. Each section also includes a Quad button that creates a denser chorus voice, adding more size and movement without the need to reach for another plug-in.

A section in the centre of the plug-in then offers a set of global controls. a Mix dial sets the balance between processed and unprocessed signals, while Depth and Tilt for provide some quick tonal shaping. Some additional harmonic ‘colour’ is on hand thanks to a Sat control, and stereo-widening (or narrowing) is taken care of by a Width parameter. a LEVEL control governs the main output, and is preceded by a zero-latency limiter, high- and low-pass filters and a Vintage mode that’s been designed to recreate the softer saturation effects associated with older hardware units.

quadCHO is supported on PCs running Windows 10 and above, and Macs running macOS 10.13 or higher. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
