In Margaret Hight’s Sept. 12 letter, “President Trump is doing a great job,” she decries the “derogatory, hateful and disgusting words” directed at Trump. She bemoans the division in the country caused by negativism, but then calls President Biden senile and Kamala Harris manipulative. Does she not understand her contradiction?

Besides, does she not recognize the demeaning, insulting and derogatory invective spewed out by Trump:

• A meme picturing the Obamas as apes.
• Insulting female journalists.
• Calling Bloomberg journalist Catherine Lucey “Piggy.”
• Stoking Islamophobia by referring to Iran as the Islamic Republic of Iran (its official name), stressing Islamic.
• Demeaning Mexican immigrants, calling essentially all of them rapists or other bad things.
• Perpetuating the lie that legal Haitian immigrants are eating the neighbors’ dogs and cats.
• Calling Minnesota a hellhole, and Somali immigrants “garbage.”
• Mocking Democrats as “Dumocrats.”

All right out of “The Dictator’s Handbook,” published in 2011, “The Authoritarian Handbook,” even Aristotle’s “Politics” (4BC): Demean the opposition to consolidate power.

If we really want to reduce hate and division in our country, we should lobby Trump, hard, to stop his invective, his mockery and his hate.
