Mad Horse Theater Company presents an irresistible slice of satire in a play that looks at what happens when five board members at the progressive private Eureka Day School in Berkeley, California, are faced with a mumps outbreak. Policies centered around inclusivity and the concept of decision making by consensus are upended when opinions clash about what is true and how the crisis should be handled.

Portland Press Herald sportswriter Travis Lazarczyk will be interviewing New York Times bestselling author and former Sports Illustrated journalist Lars Anderson about his book “Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness,” a biography about quarterback Tom Brady. The book will be sold at the event and Anderson will sign copies after the talk. It includes more than 350 interviews with people who know Brady in both a professional and personal capacity. Brady led the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl wins from 2001 to 2018.

Thornton Wilder’s timeless play “Our Town” comes to life at City Theater. This is the third time Linda Sturdivant has directed the show, and this version features some dancing and arrangements of a few American folk songs done by Sturdivant’s daughter, Sara Sturdivant. “Our Town” depicts the Webb and Gibbs families as they move through the cycles of life, including love, marriage and death over a dozen years, starting in 1901 in the fictional town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire. Written in 1938, the play retains its poignancy with themes that transcend time.

Friends of Woodfords Corner offers up two great reasons to head to that part of Portland on Saturday. First up is the Yard Sale Trail grand shopping adventure that features dozens of participants all over the neighborhood selling pre-loved goodies.

Then, from 2-7 p.m., hit Cornerfest. Grace Street between Vannah Avenue and Woodford Street will be closed to traffic. The festivities include live music, food, carnival-style tabletop and lawn games, crafting, pumpkin painting, wild seed bomb making, beer garden, local trivia and more. Rain date for both is Sunday.

If you love to dance but also love to go to bed on the earlier side, this is the dance party you’ve been looking for. Earlybirds Club is a national early-evening dance party for women, trans and nonbinary fun seekers. DJ Lola Vera will spin retro tunes from the 1980s through the 2010s, and after you bust a move for a few hours, you can head home for pajamas and your bed.

There are still a few tickets left to see Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and his All Star Band in Portland. The supergroup features Steve Lukather (Toto), Colin Hay (Men at Work), Hamish Stuart (Average White Band), Warren Ham (Toto), Gregg Bissonette (David Lee Roth Band) and Buck Johnson (Aerosmith). Sets have included “Yellow Submarine,” “Octopus’s Garden” and “Photograph.” The show will be Starr’s first time performing in Portland. His latest album, “Long Long Road” was released in April.

Singer-songwriter Garrison Starr released “The Gospel Truth” last week, so you can expect to hear plenty of songs from it, including her angsty rocker take on the traditional gospel tune “Ain’t No Grave.” The album delves into her evangelical background, the rejection she experienced after coming out and how she was able to find her way back to the music she loves. With a potent Southern drawl, Mississippi-born Starr has been churning out solid tunes since the ’90s.
