The New York Giants' season entered a state of peril when starting quarterback Jaxson Dart was ruled out for the year – with fans worried how the team would look under Jameis Winston.

Dart's injury in Week 2 of the NFL season led to Winston, the former first-round pick turned backup, taking the reins.

But the miscommunication with Winston in charge was made clear with an early play in the shadow of his own end zone.

On a 2nd and 10 play in the first quarter, Winston was supposed to deliver a simple handoff to running back Cam Skattebo.

Instead, Winston stood right in Skattebo's path and knocked the running back to the ground for a three-yard loss.

Winston turned to apologize to the running back and exchanged some words before going back into the huddle.

The Giants ended up punting on that drive and then forced the Titans to do the same on the next.

New York's offense stalled throughout the afternoon as a nor'easter brought strong winds and rain on a miserable day in the New York Metro area.

In the aftermath of Dart's injury, there has been much speculation about what direction the Giants would go in for the rest of the season.

Winston is one of two healthy quarterbacks on the Giants roster, with the other being Jake Haener, who was signed from the practice squad earlier in the week.
