I think people have gotten lazy about documentation. Sometimes they write a FAQ but in my opinion questions are frequently asked when the documentation is poor. I began programming before the internet. I think the internet has made people lazy in this context. I think software should be well documented, much better than is usually done now.
In the past Windows applications use context-sensitive help. That seems to have been abandoned. Stuff like that should be done. You are asking about eCommerce sites and that implies internet. Web applications do not support something like context-sensitive help and I think that is a symptom of the problem.
